Tigers visit Lewis

By Eric Guimaraes
DE Tyquan Lewis of Tarboro, NC has offers from Clemson, USC, Ohio State, LSU, Ole Miss, North Carolina, NC State, East Carolina, Wake Forest, Tennessee and Minnesota among others. He remains very interested in the Tigers. "They came by to see me twice this spring and are telling me they really like me," Lewis said. "I've already visited four or five times and I'm going to go back. I really like it there." USC has not contacted him recently. "I haven't really heard from them lately but I liked it when I visited," he said. Recent Gamecock commit QB Connor Mitch has talked to him about joining him at USC. "He tells me to come and play with him in the SEC," said Lewis. Lewis will visit Ohio State June 10th. "It'll be my first visit there," he said. "They say that if I go there, I could play for a national championship." LSU and Ole Miss are other schools he would like to visit this summer. Lewis plans to narrow his list by July but was unsure of how many teams will make that list. He did not name a favorite.

I've always found it interesting that UNC, USC (East), and Clemson seldom have top 10 recruiting classes, but on draft day, they always put several guys in the first 2 rounds.

The same way schools like ole miss, Mississippi st, Arkansas and vanderbilt don't have high rated recruiting classes but turn a number of guys pro, there's just so much talent that can be spread around in the south(preferably the southeast). That's why the sec stranglehold on college football. Kids can play year round and hone their skills outside.

Not to take away from tyquan. But I love how the staff is going after NC now. Its an underrated state for football talent. Overlooked usually in favor of classically talent rich VA and SC

"They say that if I go there, I could play for a national championship."

I love that the staff is using this line. I know a lot of schools do but with UFM at tOSU it is very, very believable. How many schools can really say that? I have heard UFM say the key is to win right away and I can't help but think about that in regards to recruiting. Especially with offensive recruits and the major changes with the playbook but it works all around. "Come on board and win a championship because it is going to happen."

If you play on D just look at the history of tOSU in that regard and the kids UFM put into the pros. Add to that UFM's comments about the offense looking more like Oregon in the future. He said that not only because that offense is truely effective at putting up points but because kids WANT to play in that system. Look at DeAnthony Thomas leaving SoCal for the Ducks, or Ohio's very own Dwayne Stanford.

When it all comes together.......look out.

Back to Mr. Lewis. I hope he realizes the truth in the quote! Good luck to him regardless.

?It was a non-committable [offer], but now it is committable,? Lewis said. ?Today it changed.

?This one means a lot. I?ll have to get my mom back up here. We?re going to sit down and we?re going to discuss this and we?re going to talk academics and things like that and see how everything else is.?

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Lewis is still mulling offers from LSU, Ole Miss, Clemson and North Carolina, but he certainly put the Buckeyes in the mix after Sunday.

?They?re up there pretty high,? he said. ?I loved it here. This was a great visit. I don?t want to make a decision based on a place I?ve never been. [The facilities] are top notch. Everything is nice here.?

Lewis could narrow list in July

By Eric Guimaraes
DE Tyquan Lewis of Tarboro, NC has taken trips to Ohio State and Southern Cal this summer with more visits on the way. "I liked Ohio State better," Lewis admitted. "From the campus to the facilities....everything was just great there." Lewis wants to take return trips to USC and Clemson and could visit LSU, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt this summer. He says the schools showing the most interest are Clemson, Ohio State, LSU, Vandy, North Carolina and Ole Miss. He has not heard from the Gamecocks of late. "They've already got two commitments so I think that's why I haven't heard from them much lately," he said. The Tigers continue to encourage his commitment. "They've got the number one commitment in the country (Nkemdiche) and he plays defensive end," Lewis said. "They're telling me I could play on one side, and he on the other, and we'd be the most balanced defense in the country." That is music to his ears. "Of course it interests me but I've always liked Clemson anyway," added Lewis. He plans to narrow his list sometime this summer and it could be as early as July. He does not have a leader.
