DE Vernon Gholston (Official Thread)

Easy, champ.

I'm not going to take this internet slight personally, though. If I were a Jets fan, I'd be angry, too.
Why would I be angry? The Jets are 8-4 and if they actually show up to games, unlike Sunday's game, I like their chances to come out of the AFC.

Gholston was "my guy" that I somehow miraculously predicted would come strong his soph yr. He came through for the Bucks and for me in a way. I really hope the best for him, but if you're a fan, you can't help but think that this season isn't a success for Vernon.

I thought Vernon could become the next Adalius Thomas. There was one quote by the LB's coach of the Jets that I thought made a lot of sense. It took Teddy Bruschi YEARS to become a great NFL linebacker. It also took Willie McGinnest years. And it also took Mike Vrabel some time.

Transitioning to a 3-4 linebacker isn't an overnight process. It isn't a 6-7 game process either. I think Vernon will still be a great player...hopefully the Jets show some patience.

DAAAMN.

that one is my favorite Vern play of all time followed closely by the clothesline at Iowa.

question... how does a DE line up? is it a strongside/weakside thing? i was watching that video and sometimes he was on the right side and other times he was on the left side.

I wonder where Vern would have went in the draft this year. Seems wide open at the DE position as Orakpo as the front runner right now. Gholston, Laurinaitis, and Jenkins all seniors!!! That would have made an already nasty silver bullet defense even nastier.

With Mangini being out, there's a big possibility that the Jets will be running a 4-3 defense next year. Wonder what this means for Vernon? Maybe they'll drop him down to DE?

Good question. I know I made a comparison to Adalius Thomas pre-draft, but Vernon hasn't learned how to play in space yet.

He might just need more time, but a switch to a 4-3 would probably be a welcoming sight for him.
