DeShaun Watson (QB Cleveland Browns)

After wrestling with the decision for months, the state?s No. 1-ranked college football prospect says his recruitment is over.

All-world quarterback Deshaun Watson of Gainesville High School is sticking with his longtime commitment to Clemson and told the AJC he will not visit any more colleges.

?I?m 100-percent solid with Clemson,? Watson said on Wednesday. ?I?m not going to visit anybody else. I?m just going to focus on Clemson and my high school season. I?m not interested in going to visit anywhere.?

Talk about a player that will clearly signal his interest if/when he actually takes a visit. Watson is a perfect example of that. Sure hope he has interest in checking out C-Bus. It's a long way till Feb.

The interest in Ohio State is obviously there whether he visits or not. The Clemson staff is also obviously putting pressure on him not to visit other schools, especially Ohio State, which is where I think the dilemma is arrising.

My guess at the timeline:

Watson announces he will take visits over the summer.

Clemson contacts Watson and puts pressure on him not to take those visits in one way or another (possibly to the point of threatening to pull his scholarship).

Watson announces his recruitment is over.

Watson meets with Ohio State staff.

Many, many months until signing day...

The pitch for Urban seems fairly simple during this meeting:

"If Clemson truly wants you as their quarterback there is no way they will pull your scholarship for taking visits. If they do pull your scholarship obviously they aren't as invested in you as they say they are. Visiting Ohio State is a win win for you. When you visit you will have all of the information you need to decide between Ohio State and Clemson. If Clemson pulls your scholarship they've made the decision for you because they failed to make you a priority and you will fall in love with Ohio State when you visit. Oh, and have I mentioned lately that Chad Morris is a top candidate to take a HC job far, far away from Clemson? National Championship, Alex Smith Tim Tebow first round draft pick and so on..."

Or something along those lines.

I think Urban has this whole "flipping" thing well in hand at this point.

Either way- DeShaun Watson? Kyle Allen?

Yeah, we're in good shape recruiting QBs right now.

If Ohio State wasn?t located so far away, it might be a more serious contender. Watson was a childhood fan of Urban Meyer when he coached at Florida. He also liked the way Meyer used a certain quarterback. ?Tim Tebow is one of my people I look up to,? Watson said. ?I?ve really grown up watching him play. One day I watched his high school documentary, and I fell in love with his game, the way he gives glory to God, and he just leads his team.?

Ohio State offensive coordinator Tom Herman visited Gainesville last week, and the Buckeyes ? despite reports to contrary ? haven?t definitely ?moved on? or given up on the idea of luring away Watson.

?No, they just told me they offered other quarterbacks,? Watson said. ?I understand that, of course. That?s every college, offering quarterbacks because they?ve always got to protect their jobs, too, and make sure they have someone. They?re going to recruit me hard and if anything happens, if I want to come visit or decide to come there, it?s open.?
