LB John Simon - (2012 B1G DPOY, Super Bowl Champ)

Big question with a guy like Simon is whether he's close to reaching his ceiling with strength numbers like that. I doubt he is, but this reminds me a little bit of Mike Kudla. Huge guy who is just incredibly strong, and tons stronger than any other highschooler who dominates against weaker competition. I'd take another Kudla any day, i'm just curious as to how high Simon will reach in college.

Definite top 4 guy in Ohio.

Mooney plays anything but weak competition.

They play Warren Harding every year(and they usually win). They play Mentor this year(Division one runner up last year). They play Ursuline every year, which is one of the best smaller Catholic school teams in Ohio. They play other traditionally strong Catholic schools in NE Ohio, like SVSM, Hoban, and Lake Catholic. They'll likely play Steubenville in the playoffs this year. Simon is not going up against a bunch of scrubs.

Let's add Columbus Wattersion, Cleveland Benedictine, Warreen Harding and Pitt Gateway (Shayne Hale), in the Herbstreit Classic) Every team they play is in a higher division except for Ursuline.

Mooney will entertain Glenville in their first scrimmage, hopefully at YSU. Should be interesting.

From the OSU site...talks about his lifting schedule and his teammates' college decsions. Has verbal offers from Stanford, Illinois, Ohio State and Pitt and really likes OSU and ND.

To me, this is where losing Danny McCarthy hurts. Danny is no doubt a stud, but we have over 20 scholarships tied up on DBs. In other words, about a quarter of our scholarships are tied up covering just 5 positions. I'm was hoping Danny would help pull Simon to tOSU.

Danny's decision won't have (whether he had chosen OSU or ND) any impact on Simon. Mooney kids know how to handle the recruiting process and each one of them will make the best decision for themselves. Look at it this year...Oklahoma, PSU, LSU and a slew of other schools wrote articles about the idea of offering all 4 Mooney kids. And by the looks of things all four will go to a different school...McCarthy = ND, Zordich = PSU, Hill = Oklahoma and Becahum = FSU/PSU/LSU.

I agree. If three of them were all going to the same school, I might be worried, but they're all likely to be going out of state and all to sepate schools. We also don't even know the relationship John has with those four. I know when I was in high school, the juniors and seniors hung out a little bit, but they mostly stayed with people in their own class. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if it's the same at Mooney.

You also have to factor in the fact that the two we did "lose" had extensive connections to the schools they chose. John won't have those connections.

By Bill Greene...confirms the verbal offer from OSU and also claims verbal offers from LSU, Pittsburgh, Stanford and Illinois. Talks about his work ethic on the field, in the weightroom and in the classroom.

Personally I am not comfortable with a) discussing an injury like this because there are HIPAA laws that apply b) people posting premium stuff on another site and that info making it's way over here...I know it's not us breaking the rules, but it doesn't change the fact that what is being posted was meant for Bucknuts premium subscribers. The poster on Yappi (who has also posted in this thread) even states that the info came from the premium board. As such, I am deleting all posts that reference this issue until we can verify it independently.

i think john simon it the best DT prospect since Marvin Austin, i know that was only last year lol but he was a hell of a prospect( next tommie harris IMO). Simons film was amazing, ive never seen a sophmore get double teamed so much and still dominate; i bet Zordich and Beachum sure loved having him in the middle. I honestly think that he's a better prospect right now than Garrett Goebal is and im a big Goebel fan.

I agree partially...John Simon is hands down a 5 star imo. He absolutely dominated against a very good Mentor team and has a huge ceiling. Not to mention he is just a freak of nature. I don't think he is better than Goebel at this point however, though the potential is there. Watch Garrett's recent game on Rivals and you will see what I mean.
