DT Adolphus "Diesel" Washington (Official Thread)

DaBuckeyes? How big does he play in college? Can he be a 290-300 pound kid? Thanks!

He's already built like a freshmen in college so I don't know how much more room there is to put on weight. I would probably guess he could get up to 260-270 I would say, but that's just a guess.

This kid does look ready to play in the Big 10 already! Glad he likes OSU, hopefully his grades are in order and UC doesn't try to pry him away. I'm not sure what OSU's past record looks like with kids from the CPS High Schools. I know there tends to be grade issues with some, let's hope its not the case with Washington.

Taft defensive end has early offers
Posted by mdyer June 16th, 2010

Taft junior-to-be defensive end Adolphus Washington has verbal scholarship offers from UC, Ohio State, Kentucky, Colorado and Illinois, according to Taft football coach Mike Martin.

Those college programs can?t officially offer Washington until Sept. 1.

Washington, an Enquirer first-team all-area selection as a sophomore, was Division IV second-team all-state in 2009. He was first-team all-district and first-team all-CMAC. He had 101 tackles and 14 sacks for the Senators.

speaking of which we seem to be doing pretty well at DT recruiting as of late (Simon, Goebel, Bellamy, Bennett, Hale, Hankins) and all that talent we're bringing in at DE looks like could trickle down and give us some good, quick, DTs (Baldwin, Moore, Washington, maybe Wormley or McMullen or even Fellows could be fulltime DTs in the future).

For Taft star, future starts on gridiron

With two seasons remaining in his high school career, Adolphus Washington has already made himself the cornerstone of both the football and basketball programs at Taft High School.

As a sophomore, Washington led the Senators in football on defense with 101 tackles, 14 sacks, and three fumble recoveries. On offense, he accounted for three touchdowns - two rushing and one receiving.

Last season, Washington led the basketball team to the Division III state quarterfinals with a team-high 16.4 points and 11 rebounds per game.

But with college decisions looming, Washington has made up his mind which direction he's heading.

"Football is my favorite sport," said Washington, a 6-foot-5, 246 pound junior. "It's more physical and that's how I am. In basketball I get picked on because I'm a lot stronger and more physical than a lot of the guys so I can't really be aggressive as I want to be. But in football I can be as aggressive as I want."

According to Taft coach Mike Martin, Washington will have plenty of options to consider.

"A lot of schools are waiting until Aug. 1 (of his senior year)," Martin said. "That's the day you can make offers to juniors. Everybody is telling me when that day rolls around he'll probably have about 40 offers. I mean 40 legitimate offers on paper."

Earlier this year, the NCAA changed the rule so that football players must wait until Aug. 1 before their senior year to receive a written Division I offer. In previous years, written offers could be extended Sept. 1 of a player's junior year.

On the night of Taft's first team practice, Washington revealed his early college preferences - Ohio State, Notre Dame and Kentucky. He says right now the Buckeyes are his top choice.

"I grew up watching OSU," said Washington, who has a 3.5 grade point average. "I would love to play for them."

Film Study: Week 1 | Ohio State Buckeyes College Football Recruiting, OSU Big Ten Football, OSU Basketball – Bucknuts.com

I saw a half from DE Adolphus Washington (Cincinnati Taft). Nothing has changed in my opinion of the athlete. He's a freak in the truest sense of the term. But he left me with a question after seeing every play of an entire half. He has to find his motor. I watched the nation's No.1 player in Jadeveon Clowney this weekend too. I don't know if Washington can be the equal of Clowney but he at least belongs in the conversation if he shows the same motor that I saw with Clowney.
