DT Shawntel "Shaq" Rowell (West Virginia signee)

Is Rowell even playing that much DT this year? The little I've seen of Glenville, he and sophomore Marcus Hall have been strictly OL. Bron Daniel, Whitner, and Eric Thomas play both ways with their second d-end being someone I don't recognize (but he's very small).

I wish ScoutingOhio could ID the players in their photos.

By Greg Powers...Shaq talks about the AA combine and being at Glenville. Florida, Ohio State, Miami (Fl), Purdue, Penn State, Michigan, Iowa, Indiana, and Wisconsin are the schools he mentions.

I think he still needs to cut some weight, but that's nothing tough to do when you're in a college s&c program.

You can't teach a kid who is naturally enormously wide like Rowell. Sounds like a prototype 2 gap nose tackle type player.

Film

My Take: Raw...but hungry (no pun). All of the clips are on the offensive side of the ball...Shawntel needs plenty of polish on all aspects of his game right now. From his stance, to footwork, to hand usage, to finishing...he needs to learn technique. However, to see such a big man move like that shows why he is held in such high regards. He shows a natural first step, gets downfield, moves piles, and is very active whistle to whistle. I'd love to see some DL clips...

Incredible movement for a big guy.

Once he gets the polish, gets in game shape and meets a college stregth and conditioning program, he could be a first round draft pick.

Big guys that move this well don't come along all that often.

If grades are ok I would love for him and Scott to continue that pipeline from Glenville.

You can't teach someone to be hungry, and few moves the pile like he does. That being said, it would be interesting to see films of others in his weight class. Shawntel certainly has a lot of talent but how much of it steams from him being 350 vs. high school defensive linemen who weight 220? Anyway, it sounds like he proved himself at the combine. Sounds like if he can keep his weight in control and his grades in order, an offer would eventually be out.
