DT Shawntel "Shaq" Rowell (West Virginia signee)

The end of that last Scout column is amazing.

I love how the Glenville system works with regards to recruiting. We never really know for sure what's going on, but every year there are hints and signs, and then we end up with more great players.

edit: also, to be down in the 310-320 range... thats amazing dedication and discipline from a HS kid. If anyone wanted a window into how hard of a worker Shaq is in football, that should help.

I have always wanted Shaq to be part of the class...Kinda thought the chances were dwindling, but hopefully he can pull thru and make it in this class...

Shaq at 290 entering college and our weight training program could be scary...They will get him back up over 300 to about 310, but only if it is good weight...

From the OSU site...update on Glenville and Shawntel's season so far. He stays in contact with the OSU staff and talks about the possibility of a conditional offer, subject to his weight management, and mentions that some schools have not recruited him as heavily because they assume it is a foregone conclusion he is going to reach his target, receive and OSU offer and accepts shortly thereafter.

From the Oklahoma State site...says Ohio State is recruiting him the hardest and he also talks to Illinois frequently. Hasn't heard from Coach Beckman in a while and still claims no favorites.

"I love the tradition at Ohio State," Shawntel Rowell said. "I grew up a Buckeyes fan and my whole family would always watch them play. They are about two hours away and distance is gonna be a factor. It'll be good to stay close and I'd like to be within about five hours driving. I know that Oklahoma State is pretty far, but I want to visit them and see what it's like..."

He said he's "around 300 lbs" and that's where he wants to be.

Staff says they want him "around 290". Any inside thoughts on whether this delta means no offer?

I'm guessing that its more the ACT score right now.
I don't think that Rowell has ever been a serious candidate for a Buckeye offer....

I think with the current DT situation they may take a serious look (assuming he is at the weight he needs to be and has the grades). I know we are young in the middle but we need a good DT to go with Goebel and I'm not sure if Mobley will be a DE or DT. We aren't getting Thompson or Jones, so someone else would have to pop up. The staff showed a lot of attention to Shaq at camp when I was there and he said he would get an offer eventually but that just may be his perception of things.
