ESPN (A bunch of Death-Spiraling maroons)

That's a shame. SVP is about as good as ESPN talent gets.

Hope the Worldwide Leader is able to hold onto Adam Rittenberg, Ivan Maisel and Rece Davis.

I'm honestly not sure if this is sarcasm or serious?
I don't think Rittenberg is that bad, at least in print, but the B10 "blog" has some obvious slants that are coming from higher up than the likes of Ward, Ritt, etc.

Not sarcasm; absolutely serious. Davis, Rittenberg and Maisel are among the very best in the business.

And I'm not sure what "obvious slants" you're talking about in the B1G blog. I find ESPN's Big Ten coverage to be excellent.

IF that is the case (they may be good on their current platforms, but I'll never know), we and they would all be better off if they did spring themselves free. Why would anyone outside of Bristol want good talent to stay stuck under ESPiN's thumb? Ick.

And I'm not sure what "obvious slants" you're talking about in the B1G blog. I find ESPN's Big Ten coverage to be excellent.

As a simple example, let's just take the Bowl Projections from last year.
Every conference' blog predicted their champion to go into the Playoffs. Some (SEC and BXII) predicted more than 1 team to go to the Playoffs.
All year, the B1G blog predicted no Playoff team. And even argued that nobody deserved to go from the B1G.
Most of their coverage comes in the form of "this conference is so bad" qualifiers as well. Hard to find a single article where they don't make some excuse or mention of how the conference sucks. ESPN has tried very hard since BTN to devalue the Big10 and imply that it's as bad as the Big East was... reality is that the ACC is the lowest power conference by a wide margin, and the BXII sitting in 4th.
But that doesn't really jive with ESPiN's near-complete ownership of ACC (this is where ESPN got started in CFB), or their interests in LHN and recent renewal of BXII rights. It's not a coincidence that ESPN has the least monetaryin B1G.
- The PAC currently has the biggest tv contract split roughly evenly between Fox and ESPN and alternating rights to their CCG. Notice how ESPN's commentary on the PAC is generally ambivalent. They build the teams up to be very good, but not as god's gift to football. Which brings us to...
- SEC also has a recent contract running through 2022 IIRC, and of course ESPN's interest in SECN. It's worth noting ESPN's interest here is 2nd and 3rd tier rights (at a **very** high cost)... CBS gets their pick of the litter first. So ESPN needs the SEC to be perceived as 4 teams deep for those 2nd tier rights, and now 6 teams deep to make profit on SECN. If it's just a 2-team conference (status quo reality any given year), then CBS will just snatch those games and there won't be much worth in the mega 2nd tier and SECN contracts for ESPN.

B1G's contract is expiring soon... and it was expected to blow all of those out of the water even before the Playoffs. Whether ESPN changes their tune after that contract will depend on what happens. But I wouldn't be surprised if it goes the same way as PAC -- as this article hints -- where Fox and ESPN split the rights for obscene amounts of money. Regardless of the spin jobs and media narratives, the B1G has major flagship Universities with infinitely larger and wealthier followings than all but a few in the SEC. In terms of marketability, PAC and B1G stand head and shoulders above everyone else.

Yeah, and most people here were saying the same thing before we beat Sparty. So what's your point?
