I don't get you guys at all. He's not going to be a first round pick this year. He's just not. He probably won't ever be one, but he should go because his stock isn't going up next year even though he's only a 2nd rounder at best now? C'mon now. Most guys who are in DT's situation (likely 2nd round at best) stay their Senior year - I know he has a child but I don't see any NBA stock negative in staying one more year. It would be kind of embarrassing to go "early" only to be a 2nd rounder/UDFA to not make the NBA when he could stay one more year and cement a legacy at OSU. He probably would've left last year if he thought he'd be a first round pick, and he was in the exact same situation then as he will be looking forward to next year.

I would hope that where he stands with graduation would play a part in his decision. DT will never be an above the rim type of player, but he can certainly improve and expand his game going forward. DT will have a more multi-faceted decision to make regarding going pro than most players in his position.

What talking heads are these? I sense they are not OSU-backers/analysts.
If I remembered I woulda sited them.. but they were notables... and it wasn't negative.. it was just matter of fact

I can't think of Mark May anti-OSU hoops folks.. I think, in general, we get very favorable treatment or at worst, fair treatment

Child didn't "=Pro" last year. What's changed since then? Nothing really.
He played on a top team with a monster down low and a talented wing to attract the defense's attention.

For a large chunk of this year, he played 1.5 on 5 on offense and kept producing. That went a long way to proving his consistency as a scorer.

His effort on defense (albeit still very limited) and attitude have also been better imo.

He hasn't shot up the draft boards but he's done a nice job solidifying his stock IMO. He also isn't going to escape his weaknesses with another year of development (defense, tweener).

If he has largely plateaued as a prospect, then the kid becomes more of a factor imo. Not as one racing him out the door, but inspiring a quicker transition to earning a role player living.

DT is projected to go the top of the second round. That's a contact that's guaranteed for a couple of years @ about $475,000 a year. I don't know what's hard to get?

I was under the impression 2nd rounders aren't guaranteed?

Mike80 is correct.

Second-round picks don't get guaranteed contracts and face long NBA odds, often playing on Developmental League affiliates instead.

Not the way I was trying to get people to look at it - I meant what has changed since when he decided to come back? Sully and Buford were already out the door, he knew he'd be shouldering the load on offense, the go-to guy. The same will be true for next year, although there hopefully will be more help from the supporting cast with another year of improvement from the returnees and a couple new guys with some talent to help. He has never been a projected first round pick, has he? I'd say he has "plateaued" for 3 years now or his stock has just never risen to the level where guys usually turn pro with eligibility remaining. Again, I just don't see a big change from the decision to come back last year. The team should be even better next year than it is this year, with everyone sans Rav coming back with more experience and skill development.

1.5 on 5 on offense? C'mon now. Whole teams aren't guarding him all at once and they never will because it's a bad strategy against a team like OSU where if you leave guys open they will hurt you.

Solidifying his stock? He's at best a second-round pick, that hasn't changed really and I doubt it will in the future. But being a potential second round pick is not exactly the kind of situation that usually has guys with a chance to cement a legacy as an all-time scorer at a winning program eager to move on to the next stage in their careers.

I guess I will just agree to disagree. Yes, it makes sense for him to leave, but normally guys in his position will stay.

Selfishly I want them all to play 4 years but Thomas saw what happened to Sully its his time..besides its time for Ross and others to develop.

But Sully is different in two ways. First and most importantly Sully was always thought as a 1st round pick, he could've left after any year and still been a first rounder. How is it DT's time when he's not in that same situation? Second, Sully had back problems during the year that caused him to sit out games - DT hasn't missed any games due to injury that I can think of, and has no known issues that potentially would require surgery.

DT can improve his leadership and off ball skills. He may not improve as a scorer but he has room to improve in other areas. Those improvements will do nothing but help his stock if he can make them. 20ppg, 8rpg and 2 or 3 Apg will give hime a legit shot at player of the year and drastically improve his draft prospects. Thats if, he stayed his senior year. Not to mention graduating from Ohio State and maybe playing for a national championship. Those things aren't small in the grand scheme of things.
