FL DB Ben Edwards (OSU & Auburn decommit; Stanford Verbal)

Assuming the offer is a 'VERBAL' rather than a verbal offer, this is a great thing for a kid. He knows he has his place with a team, but can continue to 'look around' and see if there is a better place for him. Lots of variables, such as the UM, ND, 'no trips for our verbal's' kinda thing that that may cost a kid his schollie, or an outright recission of a school's verbal offer to a kid, but seems like pretty much a win-win for the kid, especially if he's up front with taking some 'fun trips' on the other school's dime. Heck, I'd verbal to tOSU, then take trips to USC (beaches, song girls), Texas, (girls), Univ of New Orleans (great food), Colorado (skiing) and Hawaii (beaches, duh), and then sign my LOI to tOSU. Pretty sure someone else has a different opinion. Is it OK to ask a girl to the dance, and then look around and see if someone prettier would go with you? Probably not in this age of public information......

Also bet that other schools are bad-mouthing (look how deep at DB they are, you'll never see the field) schools and making promises that border on the outrageous....Anyway, the good guys will win out in the end... Go Bucks

I agree that he should look around and make sure tOSU is his best option (which it obviously is :cool:). I also believe if that is your mindset that you name them as a leader, don't commit to them. Call me old fashioned, I believe a commitment should constitute a commitment.

A coach the caliber of urban Meyer never stopped recruiting guys at Edwards position, especially this early in the process. This isn't his first rodeo, he knows this kind of thing would happen. Meyer is the type of coach who will keep the ball in his court, and not just think that a verbal means this kid is locked into being a buckeye 100%, few OOS kids are this early.

And buckeyeintn, you're old fashioned. A commitment doesn't mean anything, it's February 2014, if you thought that his recruitment wouldn't be a battle(like all top OOS kids) you're being delusional

I wasn't saying I felt his commitment was solid this early, I was saying don't give your word until you know you are ready. It's an unfortunate statement on society as a whole (this is not restricted to football recruits) that giving your word means nothing. I still believe it should.

I hear what you're saying. But in the recruiting world, a commitment is just a word until a signed binding letter is involved. And as much as we want to chastise the kids, the coaches are just as guilty as not being held to their word as well. If a higher rated recruit were To commit, a player at the same position would be brushed aside. Coaches sign contracts and leave them before they're done. It happens on both sides. And I can agree that a word no longer has much importance now, it's sad but that's the situation were in.
And all this speculation could be for naught in the end as Edwards is still committed to OSU and is only taking visits, which honestly should be expected.
