Junior Jacques Patrick became the second running back in Metro Conference history with at least 5,000 rushing yards and led host Timber Creek (4-4, 1-3 in 8A-3) past No. 12 Oviedo (5-4, 2-2) 22-21 on Friday night. Oviedo's loss meant Winter Park will advance to the playoffs as the district's champ, with Orlando University as runner-up.

Patrick ran for 211 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries to give him 1,771 rushing yards this season and 5,019 for his career. Former Apopka RB Jeremi Rudolph finished with 5,330 rushing yards from 1991-94.

"I just try to give maximum effort on every play,'' Patrick said. "I appreciate my teammates and coaches' support.'

Jacques Patrick talks Miami-FSU, Gators, reaching 5,000 yards, missing playoffs

Orlando Timber Creek running back Jacques Patrick, a junior, eclipsed the 5,000-yard rushing mark for his career Friday night and was at the Miami-FSU game Saturday. (CHRIS HAYS/ORLANDO SENTINE:)

Timber Creek’s junior running back Jacques Patrick, the most sought after college football prospect in the Orlando area, was at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee on Saturday night for Florida State’s drubbing of state rival Miami. He said it’s not so much the outcome of the game that mattered to him as much as the atmosphere, and FSU fans certainly made an impression.

“It was crazy and fans were approaching me and telling me to come to FSU and stuff ... it was crazy,” said Patrick, who went over the 5,000-yard mark for his high school career Friday against Oviedo.

As crazy as the fans were at the Doak, however, Patrick said it was not the craziest atmosphere he’s experienced.

“I would say it was tied for second with Ohio State, but the Florida-LSU game last year, that was the craziest by far that I’ve experienced,” Patrick said. ”I was sitting next to Mitchell [Timber Creek linebacker Estrada] and I couldn’t even hear him.”

Patrick, the No. 1-ranked player in the Sentinel's 2015 Central Florida Super60, did say he was impressed with the way FSU handled the Hurricanes.

“It was impressive. I think Miami was No. 7 before the game and for Florida State to beat a team like that ...,” Patrick said. “But that doesn’t matter too much when it’s two teams like that and both teams are ranked high and stuff. Both are Top-10 quality teams so one team beating another team really doesn’t matter.”

He said he liked the way FSU used it’s running backs.

“They use them in multiple ways and they use them to stretch the field a lot,” he said. “Like catching the ball a lot out of the backfield.”

Patrick visited Ohio State a few weeks ago and enjoyed his trip.

“It was a lot of fun. I hung out with Coach Urban [Meyer] and Coach [Stan] Drayton [running backs coach] and met Braxton [QB Miller] for the first time,” he said.

Put Jacques at the top of my wishlist for 2015. Kid is dynamic and will make an immediate impact somewhere. His running style/build reminds me of AP (not comparing talent level, just style, so don't try to disparage me on that). Really hoping he suits up in S&G.

He reminds me of another former florida runningback. Derrick Henry

Do you mean the frosh RB at Alabama thid year? I disagree with that. Henry is humongous and could easily outgrow (sorry he's probably outgrown RB already) the RB position in another month. I could see AD as a comparison, but also james wilder from fsu, or even carlos hyde or beenie.

Yes, Henry and Patrick are both about 6'2 6'3 with wide bodies and bulk. Similar type of running style, but Henry was probably the better overall athlete. He could run a legit 4.4 at his size, kinda insane.

But I thought henry was a legit 6'3', and closer to 240? Henry is a very big RB and could be a lineman. Patrick seemed to carry his weight different, and didn't look as big, though he's still around 220. He's a special player though who'd fit well In any offense

Yeah Henry is bigger by about 20 pounds, but when I see Patrick run he just reminds me of Henry.

I think another good comparison is Carlos Hyde.
