HB Dontre 'DeSoto' Wilson (Official Thread)

I really think the lack of touches with Dontre mostly had to do with Hyde...when you know you are getting at least 5 yards a pop with him, it is a little hard to quit riding that train until it breaks. Plus the staff said Dontre needed to get a little bigger to be a full-time contributor...they weren't going to send him over the middle often at 170-175 lbs. Even though there will be plenty of guys we will want to get the ball to, Dontre's role is going to expand significantly with experience in the system and another year of Coach Mick time.

Great Dontre article by Patrick Maks at 11w:

My favorite is the Phil Steele quotes:
Phil Steele said:
“I THINK DONTRE WILSON COULD BE THE MOST DYNAMIC OFFENSIVE PLAYER ON THE TEAM ALONG WITH BRAXTON MILLER THIS YEAR.”

“Keep in mind, he was a running back, they switched him to a slot. He was still sort of learning the position last year but now he knows the position inside and out. He was probably the best playmaker in the spring, understands the position.

“I think he’s going to be Braxton Miller’s security blanket. If you want to keep Braxton Miller healthy, he’s going to get that ball out of there quickly. Well, what better way to get the ball out of there quickly than hitting your slot receiver.

“I think Wilson is going to have a fantastic year for Ohio State and be one of the marquee players in the country at the end of the year statistically out of that position.”

Dang kid. I knew he was small last year, but it's a wonder to survive at that size and this level. Going to be a blast watching Dontre this year.

Deanthony Thomas played around that size his first few years at Oregon. You can't hurt what you can't hit. It certainly will be fun watching dontre in what ever capacity he's used

Looked like a totally different player out there today. Last year he was a skinny kid who pretty much relied solely on his speed. He was hesitant and most times went down with the first defender to get to him. Today he looked bigger, stronger, faster, and more decisive in his runs. Could be a MAJOR breakout player nationally on offense and special teams if today was any indication.

I agree. Last year, if someone sneezed, Dontre would fall over. This year he looks like a completely different person.

Honestly all 4 of Wilson, Marshall, Samuel and Elliot each had explosive moments. I think we are in for some big plays this year as all 4 guys are electric in space. We may even see some no QB sets and a triple option run with 3 of them in the backfield at the same time.

It's easy to forget him but Devin Smith too - he consistently breaks away for big time TD catches and is very fast as well.

Idk about any no qb sets, but if today is any indication of anything, its that Dontre may be out most explosive player on offense, and the staff is ready to unleash a ton of speed and talent in space with Dontre, Jalin, Curtis and Devin. Dontre will See the ball in his hands much more this season
