Terry Beckner Jr. (Missouri DE)

Wow, great film. Obviously, he's facing competition that is way undersized, but a couple things are obvious: He's really well-coached and he has a college-ready body. Put those two things together and he ought to be in competition for a starting spot from day 1 and on, pretty much no matter where he goes.

I come in peace and thought I'd give some thoughts from the Missouri perspective. As for competition, I believe ESL plays in the largest class in Illinois. If not the largest, it's the next step down. I think they also played St. Xavier from Ohio, which some of you may or may not be familiar with. I don't know what size school they are.

As for the sudden crystal balls for Missouri, nearly the entire ESL team visited Mizzou maybe last spring. The staff has been working hard to build relationships with the ESL staff, relationships that a decade ago had been strained. During that visit, his teammate Nate Strong (RB) committed to Mizzou. The year before Greg Taylor of ESL committed to ESL before having to go the JUCO route(unfortunately a concern for kids coming out of ESL).

Beckner has been very quiet himself, but his coach made comments on his behalf (their staff tweets fairly regularly) and some of those comments had to do with him wanting to play the best teams, the best teams are in the SEC and if playing in the SEC it would ideally be 1 1/2 hours down the road. Their words, not mine as far as conferences go. There had also been some comments by his coach about Mizzou being in good shape as well.

That is to only explain why the crystal balls. As we all know, 18 year olds change their minds at the flip of a coin. He has also visited FSU and obviously visiting tOSU, so I think the whole SEC thing was pandering to the crowd he was talking to. At this point, it's anyone's guess. Mizzou's pluses are proximity, couple team mates who committed to Mizzou and have been working him, solid relationship with the ESL staff and Aldon Smith/Jacquies Smith/Kony Ealy/Sheldon Richardson/Michael Sam/Shane Ray/Marcus Golden. We've had a fortunate run as of late on the D Line and that undoubtedly will be sold to him, including back to back SEC Defensive Players of the Year.

Anyways, best of luck to you guys and glad to see Mr. Elliott doing well.

Welcome. Yes, most of the people on this board would be quite familiar with St. X. Big school powerhouse in the state (often nationally ranked). Urban was an assistant coach there in the early to mid-80s. I listened to the ESL-St. X game on the radio while traveling. I can't say that I heard Beckner's name much (if at all), but that did not surprise me. At that level, it is quite easy for an offense to avoid/neutralize a single star DL, esp. when it's St. X doing the neutralizing. I remember hearing an ESL WR's name quite often - can't remember the name.

Beckner will make the right choice for himself, whether it's Buckeyes (hopefully), Tigers, or someone else. He's a beast. Thanks for stopping by and providing some insight.

That argument is very strong for MU, ill also add that Mizzou's defensive line coach Craig Kuligowski (who I've actually seen speak) Is one of the few defensive line coaches that I feel is on the level of Coach Johnson (who I've also seen). In that aspect, they are just as strong as us unfortunately but the x-factor is no doubt Urban.

An update from our end. Our DC left to take the head coaching job at Missouri State. Who knows who gets the job but the early fan favorites/buzz are that either the DLine coach, Coach Kul, or Memphis DC Barry Odom (former Mizzou player/coach) will replace our departing DC. Not sure how that will effect Beckner, but thought I'd pass it along as it surely is a factor in some fashion.

Thanks for the update. We always love to have well informed, outside opinions from other fan bases here. Especially with recruiting. Currently dating a Tiger, so I have to tolerate Mizzou anyways haha. But Beckner will be an interesting one to follow...he is quiet and I think everything will escalate in the next month. I think it will be one of us either way though. I would love to have him here though, we really need some immediate depth inside.

Someone passed it on to me, so I figured I'd pass it on to you guys. I don't always follow twitter but for those that do because he's been so quiet on the recruiting front, Beckner has apparently started doing the twitter thing. @TerryBecknerJr I couldn't help but take a look and if you go by what is on a person's twitter account, I'd say it's between tOSU, FSU and Mizzou, not that that is any big surprise.

Congrats on the huge win the other day and best of luck against Oregon. Glad to see a St. Louis native do well in the spotlight.
