Prospects of his caliber typically are swarmed with offers in the spring, and Boykin is hoping one comes from Ohio State.

He visited the Buckeyes unofficially last weekend during their 63-14 victory against Penn State.

"It was great," Boykin said. "Their fans are nuts. I got to go in the locker room and talk to Coach (Urban) Meyer and some of the other coaches. It is almost like I'm star-struck when I meet (Meyer)."

An offer could be coming soon.

Boykin said he receives a letter from Ohio State every day and talks to assistant coach and former New England Patriots' standout Mike Vrabel once or twice a week.

"Nothing is for sure, but I really hope so," Boykin said. "I just always liked them and the way they play. The Ohio State University is something I was always into."

Boykin had hoped to take a trip to Michigan State this weekend, but the 1 p.m. Saturday starting time for Providence's game against Crete-Monee forced him to alter those plans.

He's visited Champaign on multiple occasions and considers himself open as interest from other schools continues to pick up.

In addition to Ohio State, Virginia Tech, North Carolina State, Vanderbilt and Missouri are keeping close tabs.

BUCKEYES OFFER NEW LENOX (ILL.) 2015 TIGHT END MILES BOYKIN

There's been a lot of discussion surrounding Ohio State's options at tight end, and Miles Boykin has just had his name entered back into the conversation.

An exceptionally athletic 6-foot-4, 212 pound tight end, Boykin has the speed (reported 4.41-40) to stretch defenses down the seam and the frame to add good weight, making him a potentially dangerous target for any offense. Notre Dame, Michigan State, Virginia Tech and Florida are some of the schools who've offered the New Lenox (Providence Catholic) star.

After a visit to Columbus last summer for Friday Night Lights where he stood out, and visiting during Ohio State's routing of Penn State in late October, Boykin has been waiting patiently for the Buckeyes to make the offer. Tonight they did.

HIGHLIGHTS

"I talked to Coach Ash tonight," Boykin said of who extended the offer. "He told me that they wanted to offer me a scholarship and that they really like and are excited about me. It's been a long time waiting for this offer. It means they still have a lot of faith in me and that means a lot."

Contd....

A 6-foot-3 TE who runs a 4.41-second 40? You guess it, Miles Boykin has an Ohio State offer: Buckeyes recruiting
But Ohio State, who first got involved with Boykin last year with Mike Vrabel leading the way, still has work to do. Boykin admitted the Buckeyes lost some traction when Vrabel left to be an assistant for the Houston Texans.

Now it's up to co-defensive coordinator Chris Ash to get the Buckeyes back into the game.

"It was definitely tough when Coach Vrabel left, and my interest kind of went down at first and everything like that," Boykin said. "But now I am just trying to get it back up to where it was. It will take time, but I am sure it will."
