In-State Players to Watch

Fritts, Berger dream in scarlet and gray
September, 10, 2012
By Brad Bournival | ESPN.com

Brandon Fritts (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) and his teammate Kent Berger don?t want to dream just yet, but there is a gleam.

Both juniors for the Cardinals, each has interest from Ohio State as they head into the mid-portion of the season, and it is interest the wide receiver and defensive end don?t take lightly.

?You grow up a Buckeyes fan,? said Fritts, who made 48 catches for 790 yards as a sophomore. ?I?ve always watched them every Saturday. To see them have interest in you is like, ?Wow.? You can?t believe it.

?To get an offer would be a dream. To watch them on TV and think about playing there, it would be an unbelievable experience. I?ve always been a fan of Urban Meyer. I love how they run their spread offense. It?s just a great school.?

OSU a dream school to QB Joey Duckworth
September, 11, 2012
By Brad Bournival | ESPN.com

Joey Duckworth (Louisville, Ohio/Louisville) had been to The Horseshoe before, but Saturday?s game between Ohio State and the University of Central Florida was beyond expectations.

With seats on the 50-yard line behind the Buckeyes? bench, the quarterback from the class of 2014 got to see just how Ohio State operated and his dream became a little brighter.

?That?s the first time I?ve been that close,? Duckworth said. ?It was better because we were closer. It wasn?t the nosebleeds like when I was a kid.

?It was pretty awesome. You could hear what they were saying. The coaches were pretty intense. It was a great atmosphere.?

I don't know if this kid has been mentioned in this thread or not so I apologize if he has...

Colerain WR Trevon (Tre) Hudson

6'4" 215lbs...has one confirmed offer from Purdue....think he camped at OSU in the summer but can't confirm.
numbers don't jump off the board because of Colerain's run first offense...I will post a video of his TD catch versus Elder from last weekend later.

The rub is that former Colerain QB and all time UC leading receiver Dominick Goodman has taken Tre under his wing (Goodie is Colerain's WR coach) and has elevated the kids overall game and his blocking in the run game is first rate.

Brandon Fritts exploding onto scene
November, 18, 2012
By Brad Bournival | ESPN.com

Ohio State assistant Tom Herman might be giving Mentor (Ohio) football coach Steve Trivisonno a call this week to ask for a little more game film.

The Buckeyes coach in charge of recruiting the Cardinals has interest in Brandon Fritts, but what the junior wide receiver has done the last two weeks in knocking out the last two Division I state champions has to have just about every coach foaming at the mouth.

?He?s been exploding,? Mentor quarterback and North Carolina commit Mitch Trubisky said. ?Brandon just runs great routes. He?s a great player. I know when he gets open, it?s my job to get him the ball.?

That?s happened over and over again in back-to-back wins over St. Edward and St. Ignatius. The first a 63-56 come-from-behind thriller, the second a 57-56 triple-overtime heart attack win that came complete with a 2-point conversion to Fritts to seal it.

In those last two games, Fritts has 22 catches for 345 yards and has found the end zone 6 times.
