How freaking hard is it to understand that if you get an envelope with cash in it it's not allowed?

Now I'm confused.
So, this guy gave TP money - who then gave it to the 3 players?
Or TP gave his money to the 3 players?

Confused, too. QUESTION:

Wasn't it reported earlier that there were several players at the event and that only some of them them accepted the envelopes?

Cash reimbursements are NEVER ok with the NCAA.

If I choose to eat at Junior Day event, I have to pay and the school must receipt every paying visitor.

If I work a camp, the school gives me an official school check.

Cash is never an option in compliance.

SMU should have been so smart as to consider it an option. :paranoid:

That there is a full bucket of horse shit Scoot. I don't know if its the bizarre admission that your guys have been "getting paid" - or the assertion that "underhanded horse shit is encouraged" in the SEC.

You need to go tell your compliance guy if there is a pattern of pay-offs at tOSU, 'cause I buy that as much as I buy the fact that anyone at UF encourages underhanded horse shit.

And whatever possessed those stupid fucks at Mississippi State to turn Cam's Dad in....didn't they get that memo that underhanded horse shit was encouraged???

i'm not saying it's "encouraged," but i WILL say it is a pattern that is reinforced... the SEC schools are always turning each other in BECAUSE THEY ARE ALL DOING IT.

Best Explanation Yet

Just saw this one from cleveland.com which definitely fills in the blanks on DiGeronimo's actions. The bottom line is that the guy has been a booster for many years, knew that what he was doing was wrong, but did it anyway because he thought that no one would get caught.

http://www.cleveland.com/osu/index.ssf/2011/09/ohio_state_booster_from_clevel.html

It seems like he has been trying to help the program for years. With that said, I do hope that he is disassociated from the program for a good long time.

Off topic, but the sooner the Ncaa is replaced with four superconferences, the better. They have no due process, capricious rules, selective enforcement and no accountability.

Not to mention their entire fucking mission is to make sure tOSU and Texas types are on the same level playing field as fucking Akron and Boise.

"It's not just the Cleveland guys. It's Ohio State. People know him," Newsome said "He's a good guy. He's helping other people out with his charity. I just wanted to support Bobby D. . . . All the NCAA people are trying to blow everything out of proportion. It was nothing like that."
Well, it's about all the NCAA is good for, and they do a bang-up job of it.

From the article....and this just pretty well sums it up....:smash::ban:

But he justified it, he said, by assuring himself: "Well, if the kids don't say anything, we'll be all right. And then when all this thing happened with [Jim] Tressel and then the NCAA, I was concerned, there's no doubt about it. Quite honestly, if there's no tattoo-gate, this thing doesn't come out."

Bobby D has an excellent reputation... LeCharles Bentley speaks very highly of the man... and that says volumes to me

I believe it's about 300 miles round trip Columbus-Cleveland... IRS mileage rate is $.55.5/mile ($166)... plus that's a day trip so toss in two meals.. and you're at $200...

If this event was in Columbus, you could view it differently..

NCAA can't seem to get out of its own way... They love stories of kids volunteering... this could shoot it in the foot

But this article exposes the root cause: the charity didn't get permission from OSU compliance like they did in 2007 and 2010. If they would have done that, then the kids would have just submitted their expenses, and would been reimbursed for a per-diem (or fraction) AND mileage directly by OSU. The charity would have reimbursed OSU and the guys would have probably even gotten more than $200.

Because the charity didn't go through OSU, the reimbursement couldnt go through OSU and the booster(s) gave the kids cash.

I have absolutely no doubt that DiGeronimo is a good man. Just look at his charitable works. The kids got hurt for doing the right thing because DiGeronimo's charity did not follow the same rules that they followed in the past; they knew that they had to get permission from OSU compliance and didn't do it. With that said, the kids knew that they couldn't accept cash, but probably thought that because it was a smaller amount than they would have gotten by going through channels, that it was no big deal.

A 2 game suspension for the kids seems harsh to me, but clearly the NCAA is trying to show the public that they are tough on OSU. Deservedly or not, DiGeronimo is almost certainly going to be disassociated from the program for a few years as well.
