Jabrill Peppers is the rockstar. The big enchilada. This 6?1? 210 cornerback is unbelievable. Peppers would?ve made a run as the top corner in last years class, and that was one of the best CB classes in years. He?s got everything; size, strength, speed, awareness, ability play zone or man, and the athleticism to play multiple positions (running back, wide receiver, cornerback, safety). He?s the whole package. Unfortunately for Lions fans, his top five is Alabama (crazy, I know), Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan and Stanford. O?Brien and his staff have a lot of work to do with Peppers.

I wouldn?t expect any of the players today to commit (only Peppers has an offer), but this is a good introductory visit just to show the prospects the campus, the facilities and begin developing relationships with the coaching staff. Hopefully for Lions fans, this won?t be the last time any of these three guys visits State College, Pennsylvania.

PARAMUS, N.J. -- The night of Oct. 12, 2012, was a quiet one for Jabrill Peppers. Not in the sense of a player held in check on the field, even though the Watch List athlete tallied only 23 yards rushing and receiving that night. And it wasn't quiet in the literal sense, as more than 8,000 fans packed the stadium to watch one of the most anticipated high school football games in New Jersey in decades.

Peppers was playing against Ramsey (N.J.) Don Bosco Prep -- his former high school -- as a member of rival Paramus (N.J.) Catholic in a game that spread bad blood and feelings of betrayal throughout the state. He didn't say much that night, though. A few thousand unrelenting students and parents were nothing compared to what Peppers experienced growing up in one of New Jersey's toughest areas. It was through his upbringing in East Orange that Peppers learned that sometimes the best thing to do is keep his head down and mouth closed.

He learned that quickly as a child, when words exchanged with an older boy quickly turned to fists in the streets, one of the few arenas where Peppers is not a step above the rest.

"I was young. I always had a lot of mouth so I was talking a lot of smack," Peppers said. "He was older than me and usually I have my older brother and he handles the work, but he wasn't there that day. It was real bad.

"I learned my lesson."

This is why recruiting and the "pay for news sites" annoy me (even though I have an ESPN insider prescription through getting the mag). I realize they are trying to get subscriptions and money from fans like us, but headlines like those just sensationalize things and create drama (which I guess is their goal)....First off, ESPN has insider articles from Jabril on both the Mich and OSU site detailing his trips to each. Without giving info away, both articles are the run of the mill things EVERY recruit says after a visit to a school, i.e. " I had a great time....the atmosphere was great....I got to learn more about the program..yada yada..." There is no indication in either article that things have changed since his last in depth update. I cannot access the 247 article but Im pretty sure it has the same quotes from the same sources (Jabril and his coach) unless Jabril is giving out different interviews to different people which I don't think is the case. The writer is probably giving his prediction based on Jabril saying he was a childhood fan of UM. Granted its a sensible opinion, but having a childhood favorite doesn't mean you automatically sign with the school (see Vonn Bell and Mike McCray). Needless to say, his recruitment is going to be the battle and its still a long way to go. I just think 247 calling "Michigan" a leader without any word from Jabril or his coach is premature at best and misleading at worst.

From what I read, he wasn't overly impressed with his OSU visit and not offering JBB might be a factor.

You may be right. You or your source may have some info none of us are exposed to, but all Im saying is I haven't heard it come from the horses' mouth. The only person who knows the truth is Jabril, and his leader probably changes based on the time of day at this point in his recruitment.... My only gripe was that I haven't heard anything from Jabril or his coach indicating his leader board has changed (Stanford on top, OSU close behind with Michigan, Notre Dame, and Alabama trailing), but yet only 247 is proclaiming Michigan is on top. It just annoys me that recruiting services (media in general) throws out speculation and opinion as fact. From all accounts, I've heard he had a great visit at both schools with the Michigan visit being better than expected (some may take this as a negative, I take it as a positive-implies he expected little from them to begin with and they had alot of ground to make up). I haven't heard anything negative about his OSU visit, he even called Urban a genius. If the rumors are true about OSU not offering his teammate as a barrier, Im not worried. Im sure Urban will gladly give Beatty a Scholly to get Jabril. Not to mention he is a top recruit in his own right ( UA game participant) at a position of need (OL, most specifically OT). Again, there is still a long way to go. I personally feel if we lose him to anybody, its going to be to Stanford before Michigan.
