K Mike Nugent (All American, Lou Groza Winner, National Champion)

Brown can make kickoffs in the endzone and kick FG's for over 50

Nuge's kickoffs don't make the endzone and struggles from 50+

NFL.com shows that nearly half on Nugent's KOs in 2011 (36 of 80) resulted in touchbacks. While that percentage dipped a bit in 2012, saying he can't reach the endzone on his kickoffs is flat wrong.

We don't know for sure if there was strategy involved in kicking to the goal line vs deep into the endzone. A high kick to the goal line is better than deep into the endzone, imo, if your coverage team is excellent. I guess it all depends.

I know I'd rather have Nugent kicking fgs than Brown though at this stage in their careers. Browns efficiency on the long ones isnt as good as it was earlier. Nugent was a near lock for the Pro Bowl before going down last year though and for me that's the bottom line.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Mike Nugent relishes the opportunity to kick a game-winning field goal. No matter the distance, weather condition or pressure, he wants responsibility to step on the field.

On Sunday in overtime, not long after missing a 34-yard chip shot that would have built a three-score advantage, his desire for a chance increased exponentially.

“I’ve never wanted to be out on a field more once we got into overtime,” Nugent said. “I was like, ‘I have to make it up the mistake that happened early.’ ”

The overtime of redemption spanned every member of the Bengals special teams. Two more special teams penalties ran the team’s total to 11 on the year, and one of them cost three points. A holding call on Alex Smith forced Nugent to re-kick from 34 yards instead of the 24-yard field goal he already made.

DETROIT — Wide receiver duels usually do not deliver, but the matchup between A.J. Green and Calvin Johnson produced plenty of fireworks Sunday at Ford Field.

On a day when Green and Johnson combined for 15 receptions, 310 yards and three touchdowns, it was Mike Nugent's 54-yard field goal that was the difference as the Cincinnati Bengals beat the Detroit Lions at the gun 27-24.

It is the second straight week Nugent has had a game winner on the road.

Made 5 of 6 FG attempts today, including a 49-yarder.

He was Mr. Automatic on Sunday, the only "miss" was a block where he stood no chance at getting the kick off. Gotta say, he has looked like his old Buckeye-self in Cincinnati and has been a huge weapon for us. If the Bengals don't get better in the red zone, Nuge may be the top fantasy player every week.
