If Bama's whole offensive gameplan was to pound the running game with Henry and Yeldon with an occasional jet sweep or PA bomb to Cooper I think they win the game. For the most part their OL was able to handle our front 7 in the power running game.

I yield to those who coach, or know more about Xs & Os than I do, but here's what I think I saw: neither team's offense could afford to go one dimensional on the other until late in the 3rd Quarter when Alabama was down to third string LBs and DBs - the Bucks O line pounded on their D all night long and it paid off. Kiffin didn't go with the running game more because, without the threat of a passing game, the Bucks D would have adjusted and shut the run down.

IMO, it was because the Bucks could run AND go deep, stretching the area Alabama's back 7 had to cover. Alabama couldn't go deep because Sims' arm was not up to the task, witness the third down pass in the 3rd quarter when he rolls left and then tries to throw back to the right sideline and the ball bounces 10 yards short of the receiver - he couldn't get the ball there.

The game was a slugfest in the purest sense of the term, and Alabama's O & D lines were beaten by the end of the 3rd Quarter. Their punter kept the game closer than it actually was.

Not just Sims' arm either imo - Cooper was double covered most of the night.
I think that also played into Henry's success because we chose to limit Cooper first and foremost. If Kiffin had taken what we gave him all night (Henry), and forced us to either keep giving up small chunks or stop double-teaming Cooper... it could've gone differently. Instead he got obstinate and tried to force their pass game when that's what Ash&Fick were keying off of.

That can be the only fucking reason, he's the only person I know who gets fired then gets a raise for it.
