Prof, while you make a good point, to say to a recruit that "the Gators have their entire two deep defense back....you can start with us" is a "derogatory statement concerning another member institution's athletics program" under a black white lens.

Doubtful--you're assuming a definition of "derogatory" that is not supportable (see below).

Tress would be helping sell his own program, but pointing out truthful and obvious realities of another program could always be seen as "derogatory" - at least by that other program. I mean, what is "derogatory?"

To answer your question, should the issue arise, the interpreting body likely would resort to the common understanding of the word. According to Merriam-Webster, that is "detracting from the character or standing of something" or "expressive of a low opinion." Pointing out that Florida's two-deep returns would, accordingly, not rise to the level of derogatory, and your example is not a good one, but rather is more hyperbole.

How would you feel about "FSU is a fine school, and Bowden a legendary coach, but they are awaiting a disciplinary ruling that the FSU President has said is likely to restrict more scholarships. We are not facing that."

Is that an expression of low opinion in your opinion? Does it detract from the character or standing of something if worded that way and truthful?

If "yes", do you feel that it is proper to not let a coach discuss truthful substantive issues facing a recruit's choice of institutions - even if they evoke the possibility that your institution looks better by comparison?

Rural Kiffin - hatin' on yo Granny

Might be time to keep Coach Kiffin away from a microphone - he's a PR disaster waiting to happen. Quickly approaching Joe Biden territory.
Now - he's insulting Marlon Brown's Grandma and is quite frankly acting like a whiny brat.

Per AJC:
