LB Darron Lee (National Champion, Super Bowl Champion, Fugitive)

From Buckskin86's post at the top of the previous page:

Going toe-to-toe with 4-star Georgia safety Vonn Bell, New Albany's Darron Lee impressed the coaches so much during his camp visit in June that he gained an Ohio State offer and committed shortly after.

Who'd have thunk we'd get Bell, too, at the time? Lee was a lot less heralded on the recruiting sites, but we got ourselves two world-class secondary players...

So pumped about having Darron in this class! Seems like such a great kid, and a heck of a football player! Going to be such a great representative of what it means to be a Buckeye OFF the field as well as on. Congratulations Darron, do phenomenal things with your opportunity!!

Great link, great interview. Cameraman should not have had that sixth beer with lunch, though.

I didn't realize that Darron had lived in Chattanooga.

Thats how darron and vonn bell got so tight at the osu camp, both either went to school together or lived quite close. But I do remember them hitting it off, because of that.

Are we sure this kid isn't 30? I seriously can't think I have seen a young man that carries himself so well for being in HS still. Such poise and respect. His parents should be very proud. How many times did he say the word 'team' or compliment someone else? And the maturity....wow. No personal chest thumping at all. Just a kid who seems very fortunate for his opportunity. I actually enjoyed watching that more than a lot of game footage. So refreshing to see guys like that. Head and shoulders above most kids his age. He will be one that Urban talks about that he loves to coach.

Scout $ - FSNextTV: Lee Ready for Buckeyes

2/8

By Scott.....Recaps NLOID & says it was very exciting. Says it feels amazing to be a Buckeye & that he's looking forward to playing for National Championships. Unsure of what position he'll play, but will gladly play on either side of the ball.

As someone mentioned earlier, are we sure he isn't 30? Another GREAT kid in this GREAT class

You wanna talk about a competitor. Came to camp twice to prove he was worthy of an offer, competed with the best in the country in Vonn Bell, and helped convince Bell to come play here at OSU when Bell could conceivably be his competition for a starting spot. Easy to see why the staff wanted Lee here.

I am holding out hope that he will be a starting linebacker, with Shazier moving into the middle. No one has a crystal ball. There is some percentage chance of him being a starting linebacker.

Starting this upcoming season??? I'd be shocked. He still needs to grow into the position IMO.

Darron Lee played quarterback, running back and defensive back at New Albany. He sees his versatility as an asset.

Urban Meyer and his Ohio State staff hit the recruiting trail each year seeking to fill specific needs, but they also are looking for a few good men.

They are known as ?athletes? in the parlance of modern college football, players who could end up at any number of positions through their college careers. The Buckeyes signed at least three this year ? Darron Lee of New Albany, Christopher Worley of Cleveland Glenville and Gareon Conley of Massillon. They have one on the hook for 2014 and some more in their sights.

?It depends on where you?re at? in terms of stocking the cupboard, Meyer said. ?The only thing I can relate it to is like when we were at Florida where we had a lot of ?athletes,? right now we?re behind on ?athletes? at Ohio State.

?Like on special teams, and guys with what we call ?safety bodies,? that?s why we had so much trouble on special teams. So this year we went out and tried to find those ?tweener guys who can play a lot of positions.?

Lee was an extraordinary dual-threat quarterback and running back at New Albany who also excelled as a hard-hitting defensive back. The recruiting analysts projected him as a safety once he gets to OSU, but he said recently that he will wait to learn his assignment.

?I honestly don?t know right now what I will end up doing,? Lee said.

?But ? I feel the coaches are going to put me in the right position, whether that?s hitting people and picking the ball off, or whether it?s having the ball in my hands and getting hit and scoring touchdowns. It?s a wait-and-see thing.?

He didn?t see that as being slighted in the recruiting process.

?I think it?s a credit to my versatility,? Lee said. ?They have seen I can do multiple things on the field, and I think they are going to use that to their advantage.?
