LB Joshua Perry (National Champion, BTN CFB Analyst)

It's funny. Most great Buckeye players, I'm looking forward to seeing what NFL jersey they'll end up wearing.

With Perry, not so much. I'm more looking forward to seeing what place on the ballot. Might be voted "Most Likely to Be Elected Governor" on this team.

WHO REPLACES JOEY BOSA AGAINST VIRGINIA TECH? JOSHUA PERRY GIVES OHIO STATE OPTIONS, ACCORDING TO URBAN MEYER

"Hubbard, well Tyquan pretty much secured that one spot," Meyer said Monday when asked who steps in for Bosa in the season opener. "You have Hubbard, you have Jalyn Holmes and Darius Slade."

There was one name, though, that Meyer uttered for the first time as a possible replacement for the junior All-American defensive end.

"Then you got other potentials," Meyer said. "You got a big kid named Josh Perry that can do some things for us if we decide to change up our defense a little bit."

Perry Serves As Voice, Example For Athletes
RYAN GINN
9:48 AM

To understand Joshua Perry, the afternoon of Jan. 6, 2015, is as good a place to start as any. Outside, it was a typically brutal Ohio winter day – 20 degrees and three inches of snow. Inside the indoor field at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center, one player remained at his interview table after all the others had gone. That was nothing new for Perry, the interview equivalent of a No. 3 hitter who gets automatically penciled into the lineup every day.

Five days prior, Perry and the rest of the Ohio State Buckeyes sealed the biggest win of the Urban Meyer era, knocking off No. 1 Alabama, 42-35, in the Sugar Bowl. Ohio State had less than a week left before it would take on No. 2 Oregon for the first CFP National Championship.

The story of the Buckeyes’ dream season led to the season’s biggest media gathering at OSU’s football facility. Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer kicked off the festivities with a press conference in the team meeting room. As his Q&A wound down, he was asked about his junior weakside linebacker.

“He's one of my favorite guys,” Meyer said, opening with the de facto response for anyone discussing Perry. “He'll be a captain for us next year. He's a guy that just does everything right, everything right. He's already had multiple job offers outside of football from Real Life Wednesdays. He's a guy I'd hire in a minute if he wants to coach. He's a guy that just represents the Perry family and Ohio State the right way. Normally, there's a high correlation between that and playing very well on the field, and he's doing it.”
