LANCASTER -- Luke Roberts is officially a Buckeye.

Roberts signed his national letter of intent to play for Ohio State Wednesday in front of coaches, his family and a large gathering in the Lancaster High School cafeteria.

"Living in Ohio, when Ohio State offers you, that's when you know," Roberts said. "It's just really exciting."

A three-star recruit and the No. 28 inside linebacker in Ohio according to recruiting website Scout.com, Roberts will start classes at Ohio State in March so he can participate in spring practice.

Roberts had 118 tackles and five sacks as a senior, garnering second team All-Ohio honors. He was a two-time Eagle-Gazette Defensive Player of the Year.

"It's a tribute to our program here," Lancaster coach Rob Carpenter said. "It's not just coaches. The teachers here play a big part in that.

"This is a big reward, but there's a lot of hard work that goes into it."

The best part of the process, Roberts said, was the day he received a phone call and was offered a scholarship by Ohio State. It made all the peaks and valleys of the recruiting process worth it.

"It was obviously a big deal to be able to come out here and sign in front of my family, friends, coaches, teammates and everybody" Roberts said. "To be able to do it in front of everybody, with all these friends here supporting me, it's been a really neat opportunity."

Side note-With switches to semesters, players from the 2013 class will have to enroll in january or wait until summer (another reason I hate semesters). Carry on.
I don't think semesters are going to make that big of a difference with early enrollment. I mean we had 6 guys do it this year so it shouldn't be too difficult especially if guys know they want to graduate early.

Back when I was a youngster, depending on your birthday you had to start school in January and thus you graduated in January but that is ancient history:)

Entrance Exam: Luke Roberts
Buckeyes have another Lancaster linebacker on their roster
Updated: September 16, 2012
By Brad Bournival | BuckeyeNation

Entrance Exam is a series at BuckeyeNation where we chat with incoming freshmen in Ohio State athletics.

Lancaster High School and linebackers go hand-in-hand.

From former Buckeye Bobby Carpenter to current North Carolina State linebacker Ryan Cheek, the Central Ohio town seems to be a breeding ground. It's also a school that produced former Buckeyes Jim Cordle and Rex Kern.

So when Luke Roberts added to the legacy at Ohio State on national signing day, it came as a surprise to no one.

He committed in the summer of 2011 when things were still in flux with the Buckeyes, believing the program would right the ship.

He picked up that comfort when Urban Meyer took over, saying the coach's hiring was "good for the program."

Named to the second team Division I All-Ohio team by the Associated Press, Roberts recorded 118 tackles -- 19 for loss -- and added five quarterback sacks as a senior.

His junior year is what started turning heads, however, when the 6-foot-2, 224-pound Roberts picked up all-state special mention status following a 96-tackle season that included 23 tackles for loss and three sacks.

BN: What does it mean to you to be a Buckeye?
