Rivals $ - OSU first to offer Onwenu

Says Coach Coombs told him OSU wanted to be the first to offer him...also hearing from Illinois, Wisconsin, Tennessee and Michigan State.

Similar proportions and high school of a certain successful DT we had here one time.
Dan Big Daddy Wilkinson attended Dayton Dunbar High School

Johnathan Hankins attended Southeastern in Dearborn Heights.

Neither attended Cass Tech in Detroit.

Edit: Now if you said a certain DE (Vernon Gholston) you would have been spot on.

2016 Michigan Star Will Attend Ohio State Friday Night Lights
Detroit (Mich.) Cass Tech 2016 two-way lineman Michael Onwenu will attend the Ohio State Friday Night Lights camp on July 25.

"I'm definitely going," Onwenu said. "Most likely I'll work out."

The 6-foot-2 and 310-pound Onwenu has scholarship offers from Ohio State, Miami, Illinois and North Carolina State. He has previously been to Ohio State on multiple occasions. Other camps Onwenu has attended this summer include Michigan State, Michigan, Miami, North Carolina State and North Carolina.

The Buckeyes are recruiting Onwenu as a defensive tackle.

Onwenu is a 4-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite. He is the country's No. 205 overall 2016 prospect, the No. 7 offensive guard, and the No. 5 prospect in Michigan.

MICHAEL ONWENU IS THE LATEST CASS TECH STAR TO CATCH OHIO STATE'S ATTENTION
There is one thing Michigan lacks, and that is ace recruiter Damon Webb. "Me and Damon Webb are good friends," Onwenu said of their relationship. "He is telling me to never be satisfied and always stay hungry. He told me that if I went to go to a school that is dedicated to me, I should come to Ohio State."

Onwenu has named Ohio State his leader, even after a visit to Michigan and an offer at the BBQ event. That's good news for the Buckeyes, since the Wolverines could be the biggest threat for his commitment and BBQ at the Big House is Michigan's biggest recruiting event of the year.

Great news. Keep up the pipeline to Cass Tech...aside from Michael being a huge talent (and Webb last year), it just feels good to take from a place that is generally so friendly to scUM. And keep up the work Damon

Damon Webb 2014
Josh Alabi 2015
Michael Onewu 2016 ?
Donovan Peeples Jones 2017 ?

Start of a little pipeline up north... :sneaky:

Junior Highlights
Defense starts at 9:20.

Not really as impressed as I expected to be (based on rankings). Average first step, has difficulty shedding blocks, does not have that "freak" factor (almost looked in slow motion on that INT), has a tendency to hand fight and let his guy get into his body too early (same on offense), and really just does not create a great deal of disruption. I think he might have had weight issues this season (already listed at 320) because he just really did not move well. On offense it was worse...he had issues getting to the 2nd level, squarely engaging defenders, and no real punch. However, I could see him getting some Coach Mick time and becoming a solid 1-tech that eats gaps...just not a disruptive force.
