DT- Malik McDowell, Detroit (Mich.) Loyola

Helped lead Detroit (Mich.) Loyola to an appearance in the state championship game this past fall, registering 63 tackles and 15 sacks while also playing offensive tackle. The 6-foot-7, 290-pound McDowell can play across the defensive front, and it?s easy to see why he holds early offers from the likes of Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Florida, Oregon, Stanford and Wisconsin. McDowell is ranked by the 247Composite as the country?s No. 2 strong-side defensive

Haven't seen anything that said McDowell was at OSU this weekend. Clifton Garrett stopped by on his way to Cincinnati for the Core 6 showcase. Malik was supposed to come next weekend, but Urban is on the cruise so he's rescheduling. Malik is going to visit Michigan next weekend instead.

247 - Core 6 Athletes Cincinnati Recap

2/17

3. Malik McDowell: The Detroit (Mich.) Loyola standout was a tough match-up during 1-on-1s that only Jones had a chance to handle. Whether he was coming off the edge or spinning inside, McDowell showed the elite athleticism you look for in a defensive lineman. At 6-foot-7, 290-pounds, McDowell can play across the defensive line of scrimmage. Michigan and Notre Dame may have the inside track, but like Garrett, McDowell is also working through the process slowly and is also high on Michigan State and Ohio State among others. He is ranked by the 247Composite as the nation?s No. 2 strong-side defensive end and No. 14 prospect overall.

?Ohio State is still there,? Malik said. ?I talk to coach (Kerry) Coombs a lot from there and I talk to Coach (Mike) Vrabel.

?Michigan State ? I like that school a lot. It?s a real fun school. I like the academic side of it. I just like the school a lot.

?I like Michigan a lot. I like that it?s close to home and I like the coaches. They?re real good people from what I see. I just like the school. It?s close to home and my people would be able to see play.?

All three schools are slated to receive additional visits in the fall, but none of them are likely to be official visits.

?I figure if you?re going to do the official visits, do it to the schools that (are far away),? McDowell?s mother said. ?I feel like why take an official visit to Michigan when we did unofficial visits? Michigan, Michigan State, places like Ohio State ? we can always go visit them unofficially.?
