Nevadabuck reporting that cryami pulled in a crowd of 2,500 for their spring game today. They LOVE their football down in Coral Gables. :slappy:

For what its worth, I read that the Canes only fielded half a team, as they are waiting for the rest to post bail...

Having been at my 35th Spring game I noticed something about this one that has me delighted and worried at the same time.Usually Defense dominates these scrimmages. In this one save for a few errant passes that went for picks the offense pretty much shredded the defense for most of the day.

I was happy with most aspects of the offense and impressed with the quarterbacks. They seem to know how and where to get the ball and can put the strike on you if your not careful. The offensive line looked good in parts but suspect in others.

On defense you can see we are lacking the linebacking and defensive back depth to large degrees. And I thought the defense lacked the agressiveness and enthusiasm necessary to be really great. In fact I would not even call them good at this point.By numbers the Dline looked good but there were no clear standouts and no fire.

In fact that was the real thing missing that I was hoping to see.Fire...hard hitting and a bit of that swagger.Very similar to the past few years is what we got.A team that was going through the motions and a team emotionless .Didnt hear the crack of shoulder pads accept on one hard it by Spence.By the way Sean is back and with a vengence.

So Cane fans while we have more talent than in the recent past this team needs to show heart and muscle and on this day they didnt convince me that they had either.
No swagger? Game over.

Hyde: University of Miami low-balling Randy Shannon on contract deal - Sun Sentinel
The latest offer remains less than new Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher's $1.8 million a year. It's less than new South Florida coach Skip Holtz's $1.7 million a year.
It's less than Duke's David Cutcliffe, who is the 10th highest paid coach in the ACC at a reported $1.5 million a year.
It's on par with the $1.3 million George O'Leary makes at Central Florida, the source said.
Shannon stays silent a moment. He looks across the practice field. He finally says in a measured tone, "I have faith in the university and hopefully, someday soon, it'll get done.''

Money evidently is the only holdup to Shannon and Miami's administration. But it impacts more than that. It impacts the future. It involves Shannon entering the final year of his current contract, which is something coaches never do for obvious reasons.
Take this past year's recruiting class.
"It had an effect,'' Shannon said. "I was asked point-blank by recruits, ‘Are you going to be there next year?' Some of the universities we were going against were saying, ‘Why go to Miami when my coach has a new contract?' ‘'
Shannon made less than $1 million the past few years. That's understandable for a first-time coach who had done nothing. But basketball coach Frank Haith is in the same neighborhood. He's made the NCAA tourney one time in six years.

Some more entertainment:
You know how I know we are back?
Cuz of all the Gators that are over here clearly more worried about our program then they are about the collapse of their own. They are so worried that they come over here and create fake Cane screen names and bash away at our program making it seem like we have the worst fans in the country when in fact all the REAL CANES want us to succeed even if they dont approve of Randy Shannon.

In 07, Meyer did what the hell he wanted in this state. There was ZERO opposition. That quickly changed in 08 as Randy hauled in a helluva class followed by another stellar class in 09. It's sad how they still worry about us from the top of the mountain. I remember the early 2000 dynasty.........dont think I even knew was a Gator was during that run. FLORIDA WHO?? But yet and still, during their mini dynasty...they kept an eye on us as they know that we are still THE U.

The staff hires made by Shannon as of late are also A+ and everybody is keeping an eye on us cuz of it.

They see what is being built. They see that we are building it without gimmicks. No flash in a pan......this is being built for a LONG DYNASTY.

They can say what they wanna say........but WE ARE STILL THE U and we are still respected. Even in our down seasons, a win against The U gets opposing head coaches extentions and raises. Beating the U makes their season.

Its inevitable. We are on our way back. And 2010 will signal the return of the ORIGINAL and TRUE King of this state.
