Scott names USC his leader

By Eric Guimaraes
Junior RB Derrell Scott of Havelock, NC has USC as his leader with Florida State and Ohio State rounding out his top three in no order. Scott took in his second USC home game Saturday when the Gamecocks defeated Georgia. "It went great," said Scott. "I love the atmosphere there." Something else has him interested in USC. "I love the coaches there and coach (Brad) Lawing is telling me that if I work hard, I would have a chance to play early," he said. "I like that." Scott also attended the East Carolina game. Other than those two games he has not taken a visit. Scott said he could go to FSU or Ohio State for a visit but remains unsure. He has USC, FSU, Ohio State, Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Vanderbilt, UCLA and "schools like that" as the schools showing him the most interest. He plans to take his time before committing.

Man I hope we we can snag this kid away from the south. He has all the physical skills but what impresses me is that he knows when to just turn on the jets and go, and when to make somebody miss. He just has a great feel of running lanes.

Anybody know what type of competition he plays though? Didn't appear to be the best on film.

Do you like him more than Lattimore and Hurd? I like him better than Haden, but if we only take 2 RB's, I'll be happy with those two.

Good question. I think Lattimore is a WR all the way, with the ability to take some carries. Hurd is insistent on playing RB and I am fine with recruiting him there, as he is a big time talent. Frankly, I like Scott a bit more than Haden but by no means would I be upset with a Haden pickup. If such a scenario would arise, I could see us possibly taking all 4 and figuring out which 2 go to WR later.

Agreed! I'd take all 4 if possible, and Lattimore would be used primarily as WR/Harvin/Brown position. Hurd could be used similarly, an athlete who we just get the ball in his hands. And Haden and Scott would be our RBs who I'm sure Urban could also split out into the slot and use in space, kind of how Brandon James and Chris Rainey were used and how I'm sure he'd like Jordan Hall to be used.

^ Both good points. Lots of similar players with lots of skill and speed to burn to fit into WR/RB for '14. I really like Scott but I don't see much drop off in talent in any of Scott, Autry, Lattimore, Haden, and Hurd. Might be a moot point anyways, Scott seems to be leaning heavily towards South Carolina.

Scott with USC among leaders

By Eric Guimaraes
Junior RB Derrell Scott of Havelock, NC continues to have USC among his favorites. Ohio State and Florida State are the two other schools he mentioned. "Those are the ones I really like," said Scott. Ohio State, North Carolina and NC State have all visited Scott at his school in the last week. "They're all telling me the same thing really," he said. "They all really like me and they all really want me." He says he will visit the three schools this off-season. Scott is planning to visit USC as well. "I'm sure I'll get down there for a junior day or the spring game...something like that," he said. The Gamecocks have remained in contact with Scott who has offers from USC, Ohio State, Florida State, Tennessee, North Carolina, NC State ,Duke, East Carolina and Virginia Tech. Alabama, Notre Dame, Florida, Texas and Texas A&M are some of the other schools showing interest. He did not name a leader.

Just happened to see this highlight vid of Mr. Scott. Kid is such a special RB, and his jukes and cuts are just insane. He can make moves in tight spaces, and before you know it he's gone!

11 warriors mentioned him being recruited as hard as Hurd and of similar importance:

I would like to agree with the writer, and hope we'd go after getting 3 commits from the guys listed and use 2 as athletes/RB/WR types. At this point I'd like nick chubb as the true RB and Hurd and Scott as the athletes. With Haden and autry being right behind those 3, imo.

And in that same vein, I'd like to add another name, Lattimore!
