Columbus Blue Jackets (Official Thread)

or both, or neither. at a certain point any part of your franchise has to be in play to make it better. i think that point is coming soon. that being said the asking price for a few of those pieces is likely so rich that no one would do it. (nash, paski, jake, mase)

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

For nonplayoff clubs such as the Blue Jackets, it has already been a long summer.
Almost two months have passed since the Jackets' seventh season ended with a loss to St. Louis. But the quiet is about to be broken. The Summer of Sweeping Changes is about to commence.
The NHL scouting combine just wrapped up in Toronto, giving general managers and agents a chance to mingle in the hotel lobby while the next wave of hockey talent is poked, prodded and subjected to long, intense interviews. The GMs will meet in Detroit this week -- more time to send out feelers for offseason moves.

rumors
z/fritsche/legein and the 19 pick/6th pick for marleau

no specifics have been laid out by anyone that im aware of.

the sharks want to sign campbell, marleau is gone if hes signed hes a 6.2m player they cant afford it.

z had 61 pts last year and some say hes got 100 pt potential. he had 61 with chimmer and an aging peca what could he do with a true pivot.
marleau will be 29 by camp.

it comes down to a few things.
1- can the sharks sign brian campbell?
2- do the cbj go after 2 more east west players to match zs game? do they dump him for more north0south NA style players? you see how hard it can be to get e-w players to play a n-s game. (malkin talk) and look at the wings and how long it took them to drive deep with so many e-w euro players. (hockey is played east west i know and its a bad saying but blah blah blah this is a football board and a football analogy)

The 'other' player in the proposed deal is supposedly a decent player, not a turd. Marleau and another player for Z and the #6 ? Z is a fa after next season, correct?

I wonder if Nash would be happy with Marleau in the middle? It's time for this team to get in the playoffs. You have to give to get.

Columbus took a chance!

some people think if it where a rumor it would be matt carle, dman for the sharks.

z will be an rfa

no way rick would comment. no way. hes not that type of person. you could have your 3 year old on the pivot and rick would lavash her with praise. just how he is.

marleaus point production
01-52
02-44
03-57
04-57
05--
06-86
07-78
08-48

joe thorton comes to the shark in 05-06
04-04 was the lockout thus --

marleau is the C of the sharks

other names are in play. management has about 100 scenarios scouted...

Carle has a pretty big contract. Shark fans think they overpaid but how is his game, contract aside? It would make sense to get Carle, especially if RH bolts. He'll only be 24 when next season starts.

Alot/most of the Sharks had dropoffs in 08 compared to 07.

I guess you have to ask yourself, do you really want to give up the chance of getting a potentially great player at #6 in order to get much needed help in the middle? What players can they realistically sign as fa's to fill the center position?

I've read alot of Shark fans think that PM will play better without the responsibility of the 'C'.

What do you think? If Carle included, yea or nay?

z and the 6 for marleau and cale? id pass

the cbj has the 6,19 and 36 picks to play with in this offseason.

this trade is based on the assumption that the sharks sign campbell. if they cant sign campbell no way they trade away a kid with 2 years experience a 42 pt season from the blueline and their captain...

locking yourself in on marleau you limit yourself.

we shall see im excited to see what the offseason brings.

Yes, it will be exciting. But, it will be hard to get fa's to Columbus just becasue they have the money to spend. To get something they really need, they may need to trade.

Then again, it's never bad to have the 6th, 19th and 36th picks in a deep draft. At least if they can make smart picks it's not bad. That's a big if.

Columbus finally getting a top line

With all due respect, David Vyborny does not an elite line make. The Czech center?s days as a Blue Jacket are apparently coming to a close, but a young countryman is waiting in the wings.

Jakub Voracek, Columbus? first pick (seventh overall) in 2007 is a dynamite playmaker who would look really good alongside Rick Nash. True, Voracek is a right winger, but with his passes and Nash?s finishes, the center on that line faces a lot less pressure.

My humble advice? Go with a youth line and promote 2006 first-rounder Derick Brassard to top-line status. Brassard is no slouch with the feeding, either; he had 72 assists in his last full healthy season with Drummondville of the Quebec League.

two rookies on the first line with nash? hitch just died... i'd like to see both kids earn their stripes on the big club this year, asking two rookies to log top line minutes... in my humble view, not gonna happen.

ill toss this link out there its the cbj draft history
