Detroit Red Wings (Official Thread)

Yep - without Z they just aren't the same team. Even with him the defense isn't playing well enough to win.

Johan Franzen is stealing money right now. the guy is not playing an NHL-caliber game.
It was interesting the energy that they played with in the 3rd. Bring that all game and you might have a better shot. I would like to see Abdlekader(sp?) on the ice more. He brings some good energy. I didn't see the early goals that Howard gave up, but he played very well in the 2nd and 3rd especially when he got hung out on numerous odd man rushes by the D.

Man the Bruins are certainly a chippy bunch...they have definitely been after Smith, who has surprisingly been playing pretty well

Smith is weird - every once in a while he has a play like the one against Lucic where he looks like a legit NHL d-man and then eventually he'll have a complete brainfart and screw something up so badly you're amazed he isn't benched.

But he has gotten into Boston's heads a bit.

Z coming back has been HUGE tonight.

When you get out-worked and turn off the offense entirely from the middle of the 2nd period on, good teams like boston will chip away and eventually win the game.

Season will probably end on Saturday. Even with Z coming back, Boston is just that much better than the Wings are.

Couldn't have said it any better @Mike80 they didn't make the Finals last year & win the Presidents Trophy this season for no reason. They're a damn good team. Deep, physical & vastly experienced.

The Bruins remind me of the Wings of yesteryear's championship runs, where they physically and mentally manhandled the other team. The Wings appear soft and heartless (yeah Franzen, I'm looking at you) for long periods of time. Howard must have been next to death to not have played in that game, although with the way the Wings were giving up the odd man rushes who knows if he would have made the difference. I fully expect the Bruins will blow them out on Saturday. @Mike80 do you think that Babcock is a dead man walking at this point? I know management hasn't made the greatest player moves, but they aren't going to blame themselves.

Nah - if anything I think Babcock's position is stronger than Holland's at this point. I do think that if the same process repeats next year we might see Babcock walk away before getting canned because Ken Holland has lost his magic touch with roster moves.
