Junior wide receiver De'Niro Laster transferred to Cleveland Heights from Shaker Heights earlier this year. His family is in the process of submitting paperwork to the Ohio High School Athletic Association in an effort to have him declared eligible to play this fall. - (Special to The Plain Dealer)

Q: Hey, Tim: I heard football player De'Niro Laster transferred to Cleveland Heights. Is that true?

- Mary Richards, Lakewood

A: Hey, Mary: Yes, Laster, a highly regarded junior wide receiver, left Shaker Heights and enrolled at neighborhood rival Cleveland Heights earlier this year. Kristin Hughes, athletic director at Cleveland Heights, said Laster's family is in the process of submitting paperwork to the Ohio High School Athletic Association in an effort to have him declared eligible to play this fall.

Under OHSAA bylaws, an athlete who transfers is ineligible for one year unless he meets one of several exceptions. Hughes said she was uncertain which exception Laster's family seeks to use.

Rivals.com ranks Laster (6-3, 220) as Ohio's No. 21 overall college recruit. Because of his size and speed, he's an intriguing prospect. He's listed as a wide receiver, and he might have a future as a tight end or safety. Regardless, he would give Cleveland Heights quite an array of talented options along with sixth-rated Shelton Gibson, Marcus McShepherd and Dorien Hudson.

According to Rivals, Laster has offers from Akron, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Temple and Toledo. Rivals gives him three stars out of five.

Rivals - Bucks ready for a huge visit weekend

10/5

Another one to add to the Nebraska game visitors list...

A pair of unoffered class of 2013 prospects will also be taking in the game day atmosphere in Columbus in Cleveland Heights athlete De'Niro Laster and Frankfort (Ky.) Franklin County athlete Ryan Timmons. Laster had a good night at Ohio State's Friday Night Lights camp in July and is being evaluated as a hybrid wide receiver/tight end type of prospect.

By The Bank....Loved the atmosphere at the game. Was able to talk to Coach Drayton who says the staff is looking at him as a linebacker. Believes he's close to receiving an offer & says the staff wants to see more of his film.
