LB Jerome Baker (Seattle Seahawks)

For those talking about Florida losing affecting him.. .I believe he's said he made a bond with some of the recruits if not the players... I think he call one guy his best friend. I dont think Florida's record or Muschamp will have anything to do with him going or not going...

What I find interesting is again it was stated after we lost out on a recruit how a football programs culture is more what they liked and you know what that's ok.

Much like Jabril Peppers stated Baker talked about not being as competitive with things more laid back. Not every recruit likes to be tested and pushed everyday from day 1.

I think if Baker attends FNL and officials us it is still very much in the air though. Then again if he isn't a fan of our culture then perhaps it wont even matter.

Hard for me to believe that Baker will stick to this "commitment" after Muschamp is fired in December.

From what I've read, the relationship is with DJ Durkin. If Muschamp gets canned, hope the next HC doesn't want to retain Durkin. I understand wanting to keep top prospects 'home', but LB isn't exactly a position of need after last year's haul, Justin Hilliard & Nick Conner. Either way, Ohio State will be just fine. Best of luck, Jerome.

Like I said, I don't wish an in-state recruit that goes to the SEC or scUM anything, which also means I will not say anything negative about Jerome. What I will say for the "this ain't over" talk is that is could be between Ohio State and Jerome. Gustin and Jefferson are two guys that would slam the door on the opening (although I think both are long shots at this point). For me, I'm just assuming he is going elsewhere until there is anything concrete to suggest otherwise.

As to how this impacts us? I don't like seeing us lose Baker or Scott back-to-back just because they are top Ohio kids that we wanted and were in the driver's seat for at one point. However, UFM's national recruiting is so enhanced that we could very well end up with players that are better at each position (Harris > Scott, Jefferson/Gustin > Baker). Plus, as MD stated, with tight schollies and already knocking it out of the park with Booker, McMillan, Berger, Hilliard, and Conner, we really don't NEED another LB and we could use the 'ship elsewhere unless an elite guy comes on board at LB.

Yes RB 100%

I too think Jefferson and Gustin would exceed Baker. I was very impressed with Gustin's tape he just explodes through people and his ability to run down hill through the lane to get the ball carrier is unreal.

I'm not saying this because he didn't choose us, I seen him last year and was unimpressed. Maybe because it was only one game(haven't seen his film) but good luck to him at Florida. Buckeyes appear to be fine at LB. Lee, Perry, McMillan, Worley, plus this year's class.

I'm sold on his athletic ability but personally not his size. I think he would be a better RB because he just seemed to get swallowed up a little in his film at LB. Most of the time he still tripped the guy up but that'll catch up to him in college.

Which is why I'm a fan of Gustin. 6 foot 5 and can move.

Both will get bigger in college systems. Gustin could easily turn into a DE, and Baker into a LB machine. Kid who was uber athletic and would be great in space. I think he'd be fine with size after a year in college S&C program. If he committed to OSU people would just say a year with Coach Mick and he'd be fine. There's a lot of sour grapes over losing out on him. Kid is very talented, period. It's crazy to try and nitpick now when all OSU loved his game all year and would've loved to have him in this class.

Haha caught me red handed if I may be 100 percent truthful. I really liked Jerome but I am also being honest where I think he would be a better RB. My preference though has always been for taller and heavier guys though at LB. That's not to say he wont be an outstanding LB because he probably will be.
