LB Justin Hilliard (2020 B1G Champ Def POG)

A future Starting LB lineup of Raekwon McMillan, Dante Booker and Justin Hilliard is downright scary. Not to mention we would have hungry guys behind them pushing them in Kyle Berger, (hopefully) Jerome Baker, Trey Johnson, Darron Lee, Chris Worley and Nick Conner.
And I'm not trying to knock any of the guys who I didn't list as starters, as this is a great problem for coaches to have. And I can hope that I'm wrong and one of the other guys becomes a starter, it only makes the team better with so much elite competition

Gotta agree @OSU_Buckguy on those attributes...McMillan was close but not athletically. Mitchell and Shazier were more athletic, but raw. So much to like with Hilliard though...in addition to being very instinctual, he is very book smart and should be able to pick up the playbook early (which is a huge hurdle at the position). Plus he seems to be a great kid off the field and should represent our university well.

Going to be a REAL interesting competition at WILL in the future with D. Lee, T. Johnson, Berger, and Hilliard presumably all going for the spot (I'm guessing SAM will be Booker, Baker, and maybe Connor if he is not a MIKE).

It's such an overused comment, but dang this kid carries himself well on camera. Hard to believe this guy is a HS Junior with his maturity and poise. Pretty cool to know he is a Buckeye.
As a Colerain guy my enemy is any school in the GCL. But only during the game. The big 4 in the GCL south do such a great job of molding young men. When you have a strong family base as Mr. Hilliard does you know you are getting a qaulity young man to represent your program, school and state.

This re-establishes the Cincinnati pipeline. And the Minnesota pipeline created by Laurinaitis.

Hilliard and Cornell understand that. That’s why both spoke of how their next move was to begin recruiting for the Buckeyes, with still seven months remaining before national letters of intent may be signed.

“We kind of have some guys on our radar, like (five-star running back) Damian Harris (of Berea, Ky.) and (five-star receiver) Christian Kirk (of Scottsdale, Ariz.),” Hilliard said. “I guess now is the time when we start recruiting.”

And who knows how many other pipelines?

Put Fickell down as a good recruiter.

Also I talked to other players like Raekwon McMillan, and all them had high words for the staff.”

And Raekwon.

Shazier wasn't technically sound or cerebral but made up for it by being more athleticly gifted than any linebacker in OSU history.
Than Gradisher? What about Spillman? Katzenmoyer? Hawk? Diggs? Cousiano? Tovar?

I really appreciated what Shazier did in his years for the bucks and he had very little in the way of a supporting cast, but he doesn't make my top six list at LB.

All I can say (of the guys I've actually seen) is that he is more athletic on film thank Hawk...and no, Big Kat is incomparable. Period. Hilliard has the ability to be one of the greats, but it will be awhile until we see a Big Kat. But maybe that is a cliche of my age. I am 26 and the Big Kat and Hawk are the best I have seen, with Hawk being the best by a smidge. But on HS film, I thought Hawk was a complete reach. I thought it was a dumb offer honestly...and he proved me as wrong as can be. Recruiting is a crap-shoot.

All that has been said, I find it hard to believe Justin won't be a player her. He is extremely smart, very instinctive, very physical, and has a good frame. He is going to be a stud here earlier rather than later. I think at the very least, he will be a steady performer. But what I really think is that he will be a star.

If you're right - and I sure hope you are - then we may be looking at the second coming of Hawk, Carpenter and Schlagel in 2015 with McMillan, Hilliard, Booker- or maybe the first time we see something beyond that. After the last three lean years at LB, I'm looking forward to the next three years.
