OL Gavin Cupp (Official Thread)

Just to add another thought real quick:

Kudos to the young man for having the courage to take a shot at his dream. He took a risk on essentially trying out for an OSU offer at FNL because, one would have to assume, as an Ohio kid that is/was the dream school for him.

It looks like he might learn that there are consequences to taking risks like that but, again, good on him for having the courage to try. He will do well in life no matter how this ends up.

Can't say it enough, if true, for a coach who's built his recruiting platform on taking the fringe Ohio kids and playing the no respect card Dantonio is absolutely playing with fire here.

As the HC if you enforce this to the letter of the law you come off badly to recruits, HS coaches and parents.

If you don't enforce it you come off as weak and arbitrary in enforcement of your own rules. How do I know what rule you will enforce and what rule you will disregard next time?

If you enforce it for one kid and not another you are playing favorites or worse.

Only way to win the "no visits rule" game in recruiting is not to play it.

Bingo. Dantonio looks like a jerk for doing this, and Hoke looked like a laughing stock clown for saying he was going to do it and not following through. Either way, not a group you want to belong to.

Seems possible that MSU might have been on the fence about the kid and used this as an excuse. I REALLY doubt they do this to a Nick Bosa if that were the kid involved.

no doubt but that doesn't stop anyone from using it against them in recruiting.

If that's the story you are going to tell then you've got to live with it.

Demetric Vance camped at Florida yesterday....still committed to Sparty.

Also, after pulling Cupp's offer, Sparty immediately offered OL A.J. Arcuri, presumably to be Cupp's replacement.

Reportedly, it was cool for the MSU commits to attend but not to participate- because ostensibly they would be competing for an OSU offer/spot in the class.

This seems to reveal, once again, Dantonio's massive inferiority complex in relation to OSU.
Should we dub someone with this "little brother" massive inferiority complex Sparty Man?

This. Best attitude and one that conveys the most confidence in your own program is to say "You want to go to a camp and compete? I'm not going to stop you. And competition makes you better. Once you are done, come back around, we will be here grinding and doing our thing. Good luck and ball out young man."

I would not however feel obligated to hold a spot open to them until they told me they were solid but I'd never try to yank a schollie. Bush league.

Is it that much of a shock that a 17 year old kid from Ohio wants to try to earn an offer from his home state school? MSU should have always known they were Option B, which ain't too bad.

Either way Cupp will be just fine - looks like he had offers from Mizzou, UVA, Minny, etc. He deserves better anyways.

Bank said it best. Torrance Gibson can take officials to Auburn and Miami and not risk losing his offer. Stephen Collier better not even retweet something from the Akron staff. Just the way of the world.
Which is all perfectly fine and the way of the modern elite college football world... until someone like Dantonio does it after years of trashing OSU for lacking a "family atmosphere."

Being a hypocrite should bring additional heat for things of this nature, IMO.

Leipsic (OH) OL Gavin Cupp tells me #OhioState has offered #Buckeyes

Interesting. It looks like Cupp's FNL gamble might have paid off.

Confirmation of offer from Bill Greene:

Ohio State has offered O-lineman Gavin Cupp from Leipsic off his recent appearance at Friday Night Lights. Former MSU Commit.
