Danny Clark (QB Kentucky Wildcats, transfer to Vanderbilt)

Looks like we've got our next great QB all lined up. We should be able to move from Barrett or Collier to Clark and just pick up some good back-ups (who sometimes surprise) over the next 2 years.

I don't mean to pile on you, but come on. Recruiting and football don't work like that. Too many intangibles. For l we know, cardale jones can be the next multi year starter at qb, or someone like Brandon winbush or Lorenzo nunez could be great. This kid is only a FRESHMAN! What if clark doesn't mature the way he's predicted to. Or we get torrance gibson and he tears iy up in college. It's not like we can ever predict the future, and fans perfect scenarios hardly come to fruition. Zwick never took osu to NCs, dorian bell never led the silver bullets, pitt brown never became an all American or even all conference player, duron carter never channeled his father, mo clarett never won multiple NCs and a heisman, etc etc

I do not Think Meyer looks at recruiting back-ups. Anyhow, props to Danny. Welcome to the Buckeye family:groove:

We don't recruit backups at any position except quarterback. That's just because you want to have 3-4 on the roster and you don't get 5 star QBs every year. The top recruits are generally smarter than going to a place that recruited a top quarterback the year before. Generally you get a top guy every 2-3 years and recruit a guy that has potential, a great attitude, and really wants to be a buckeye in the 1-2 years between getting a top guy. Sometimes they surprise and start, but in general their purpose is to be there in case we need them.

You're taking me way too literally. I'm not saying we've got our next quarterback so we WILL NOT recruit another one in '15 or '16, even if he starts to bottom out in the next 3 years, even if none of our quarterbacks develop as a starter next year. If he doesn't mature, I'm sure the staff will place a higher recruiting priority on getting someone in '16. I assume that they will always go after the best every year, but provided Clark matures as they expect, then they can focus their efforts elsewhere for the '15 and '16 classes. If next year none of they guys really pan out, I'm sure they'll go hard after a top guy in '15. Everything is flexible, I'm just saying this takes the pressure off a little.

Very awesome get. Love the Canton kids because they love to be Buckeyes and fully respect the rivalry. Let's see how much more he grows also. If he's starting in that league as a Freshman, you know by the time he gets here he'll have poise few QB's end up with even in college. Stay healthy young man and absorb every ounce of knowledge you can from the people who came before you.

Welcome to Buckeye Nation!!!

Since recruiting MCarron saban has had 5 recruiting classes (including 2014) and has had no 5 star recruits at qb, 3 4 stars and 3 3 stars. Not saying stars are everything, but every other year the best he got was a 3 star guy. Actually in his entire career at bama Saban never even got that high profile 5 star qb recruit. He looks to alternate 4 and 3 stars every year.

Alabama is probably a bad example, but USC is a good example of a team that takes a 5star QB every year, and the years they didn't get a 5star QB, they got a 4star one ranked in the top 5 of pro style QBs. Which is nothing to sneeze at. The right staff can make it work, and top kids don't scare from competition if the school is showing success and can offer playing time if they play good enough. I would like to see our staff continually go after the best QBs on their board regardless of having Clark's commitment.

Their 2014 QB Cornwell has a top 60 composite ranking and their commit for 2015 Ricky Town is a 5 star. Anyways, Clark is one 5 star they won't sniff :)

Are they really 5stars... or just "omg Cali QB... USC commit... must be a 5*" ?

It seems to me that Ohio kids are generally under-rated nationally. As a result, I have doubts Clark will get a 5* rating no matter what he does -- partially owing to having committed already as well.
So much of the * ratings seem to be based on how many SEC schools offer somebody.

Lol, I hear what you're saying, and a few were probably that. Though Matt Barkley wasn't too bad.
And yes, the south is most definitely biased in all rankings. In almost laughable. I would predict that Danny would be a 4star, at best. Sucks but what can you do
