Mind of Mike
The Class of 2016 is a big one in Ohio for tight ends, and with the Buckeyes grabbing a commitment from three-star Kierre Hawkins over the weekend, that still leaves four-stars Luke Farrell and Jake Hausmann on the market. Both also have an Ohio State offer and with the Buckeyes likely not taking three tight ends, who will jump on their offer first? Farrell has been open about his strong feelings towards Ohio State, while both of Hausmann's parents are Ohio State graduates. It should be an interesting situation. Hawkins is athletic enough to play outside or from the H-back position, but it's still unlikely that Farrell and Hausmann will both be in the plans for the Buckeyes. But here's an interesting idea, take all three. If anyone can make that work it's Urban Meyer, who could find ways to run the spread with speed and mix it up with a jumbo set a la the New England Patriots of a few years ago where the tight end became the biggest weapon on the team.

THE HURRY UP: BUCKEYE COMMITS SHINE AT THE OPENING, BIG CAT WEEKEND HITS BUCKEYES AND MORE
  • Kierre Hawkins // ATH // 2016
There were few athletes in attendance today that looked better than Maple Heights' Kierre Hawkins, who at 6-foot-4 and 225-pounds is absolutely impressive. As a wide receiver (although he lined up at tight end today) Hawkins is a bit raw and had a bit of difficulty catching the football. Still, the tools are there and with a bit of refinement and a continued focus on translating athleticism to football skills, he can be a difference maker. An athlete of his stature could play wide receiver, tight end, or even defensive end if he puts on 20 more pounds before he gets to Ohio State.

KIERRE HAWKINS' SENIOR SEASON IS OVER BUT HE'S JUST GETTING STARTED

Kierre Hawkins isn't your average recruit, and I don't mean that just because most kids aren't 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds.

What I mean, more succinctly, is that he just isn't interested in being recruited. He knew what school he wanted to go to, they offered, he committed – the end.

"I never visited any other schools," Hawkins told Eleven Warriors. "I remember the first time I talked to (Urban) Meyer, he told me I needed to come down to camp and work my butt off to get an offer."

Hawkins did, and he did. That was that. As an athlete born and raised in Northeast Ohio – hell as a person born anywhere in Ohio – the chance to suit up in the Scarlet and Gray was a lifelong dream fulfilled.

"It means so much to me to be in this position, it's always been my dream," Hawkins said. "But I had to work for it and I got it. I knew it was on me to get this offer and I got it."
