Ohio State Athletic Program Violations

My take on this whole thing is that this is all a knee jerk reaction to "failure to monitor", the NCAA criticism with the most sting.

No one can say that tOSU failed to monitor the last few months. Big brother is watching. The compliance department scored major points and bonuses for this list.

Maybe someone could say I am too young (but this is not a fruitful line of argumentation), but I don't remember seeing anything like this from any other university.

My secondary takeaway (on these secondary violations) is that Gene Smith should be fired.

It would be interesting to compare the football related violations (9 of them) against the rest of the NCAA D-I schools. I tried to dig up some info on this yesterday, and all I could find was that Alabama had 14 secondary violations in 2011 (that is they admitted to them in 11) and Clemson had 3, I think it was, this year.

On the other hand, this has always been a "headline only" sorta story in the first place. Let's face it - Ohio State admits 46 violations - generates web hits. Especially after last year.

46! VIOLATIONS!

WOOO man, they are gonna FUCK the SHIT out of Ohio State NOW! Grab your pitchforks were going trollin!

Oh.. wait.. one coach was dipping on the sidelines? Meyer said "good luck" to a recruit? ... Put the pitchforks away, fellas

That's because this isn't real news, but standard athletic department procedure. This only became a story because the information was requested and published by Mr Lesmerises decided to research it and write a story, thus throwing normal athletic department operating procedure out there for every idiot in the national media to digest

This is ridiculous. When will this shit ever end? If Gene doesn't know if they are secondary or not, they're probably not. This guy is clueless.

I can't wait to see what they are this time and the media shitstorm is going to be fun.

There are more NCAA violations on the horizon for Ohio State, and athletic director Gene Smith said he doesn?t know what the NCAA will make of them.
Smith told The Lantern Tuesday the athletic department has 12 pending NCAA violations, and he doesn?t know if they will be deemed primary or secondary violations.
?We?ve got 12 pending,? Smith said. ?It may turn out to be secondary. It may not.?
OSU spokesman Dan Wallenberg said in a Wednesday email to The Lantern, that there were actually less than 12 pending violations. Wallenberg did confirm that the additional violations are being ?processed,? although he did not ?know the status of each situation? in regards to whether it was

 I guess you did need the last word after all. It's all yours. These secondary violations are so trivial that I'm done with this thread.

That's some bull[Mark May] that my reason for deleting can be pulled into the thread. I thought BP had more class than that.

Kentucky fans. smh

It's not his fault that you felt like trolling a moderator.

If you didn't want to leave a reason for deletion, then don't leave one.

Back to the topic at hand,

How anyone can continually mishandle something so important and remain in the same position of power astounds me. Please, just go away Gene.

Really really hoping this doesn't become more serious, but I mean, no reason to think this will turn out well after everything else before. :shake:

It exists to document why posts were taken down, so mods can see: twitter junk, spam, etc at a glance without having to load each individual post.

obviously in your case it backfired.

I am not sure if a reason is required but the truth is not.

If a university is committing 50 violations a year, of course there are always pending violations.

Most of the violations are laughable and things other universities simply don't report. I really think Ohio State needs to start taking this course of action. The NCAA certainly does nothing to punish universities for not reporting much, and in the mean time Ohio State continues to get bad press. On top of that it certainly did not buy any good will from the NCAA when it came to determine penalties for the major infractions. Why continue to report in this manner? It's just a waste of time and effort that brings no good.

It needs to be reiterated that Ohio State has 36 varsity sports. No other school in the nation has that many.

When 21 out of 37(including the AD itself) report secondary violations, you aren't doing too bad, considering common courtesy can be viewed as a violation.

Ohio State had 46 secondary violations in 37 entities of the Athletic department.

Last year, Alabama reported 44 violations. They have 19 varsity sports.

I'll let you do the math and decide on your own which school has the bigger institutional problem.

When he holds a press conference and/or says he is confident about something we'll know we're really in trouble.
