OL Joey O'Connor (transfer to Colorado State)

I see a guy who could be an awesome pulling guard at the next level. He is pure nasty but he's got excellent mobility also. Pulling through the hole leading that counter onto a linebacker sounds music to my ears.

This is the type of guy you take to battle with you. Penn State is seriously going to miss him and Schutt. Hope he gets an offer and bolsters our Oline.

Just saw some of the film on this kid you have got to love the attitude that it seems the Bucks are looking for he is nasty right up to the end of the play and then he helps em up. Yep I said helps em up usually 10 yards from the line of scrimmage and from their backs.

You realize there is film posted directly above this, right?

Also, he very rarely helps anybody up at the end of plays.

We want young men that are scholars and gentlemen off the field; however, on the football field playing with a "nasty attitude" and/or "mean streak" is definitely not a negative.

I don't think that's what he was referring to.

Windsor Beacon spotlight... with Joey O'Connor
Small town, oversized player, digs out of global issue surrounding Penn State

Windsor High School offensive lineman Joey O'Connor shows a look of indecision as he looks over an atlas while considering where he will end up playing college football. O?Connor is considering several schools. He has plans to visit Ohio State University on Jan. 13. Don Reichert/For the Beacon

Meet Windsor High School senior Joey O'Connor, a huge kid from a tiny community that found himself entrenched in a national story when he de-committed from his verbal pledge to Penn State University this past fall.

At 6-foot-5-inch and 300 pounds, O'Connor has the shoulders to handle just about any load, but in our recent chat, he explains how the emotional weight of the wildest few days of his life grew heavy

Beacon: Take me back to the moment you decided to go to Penn State. What happened there to make you commit so early and with such enthusiasm?

O'Connor: My plan was actually not to commit early, to take all my official visits.

Beacon: Really? What changed your mind?

O'Connor: I went out there for the camp the end of June with coach (Chris) Jones, which was nice because he was playing devil's advocate and helping through everything. As soon as I stepped on the campus, I had a really good feeling about it . . . Coach Kenney (Penn State offensive line coach) and I just hit it off. We had a great chemistry.

On the way home I felt like I found it, and I didn't have to look anymore. I remember just falling asleep from the feeling of relief . . . I fell in love with Penn State so much. I was just so emotional that when I told my parents about it I started crying. The whole university just said what I was all about.
