OL Kyle Dodson - Pleasant Surprise
Last year as I watched the Shaker Heights-Cleveland Heights football game, I kept noticing this long, tall young man dressed in street clothes on the Height's sideline. He explained to me why he was not dressed out. He said that he was going to start playing next week. Took notes.

Yesterday I had the chance to watch Cleveland Heights workout. Walking up to the school, the first person I met was none other than Kyle Dodson, all 6'6 and 310+. This time in a track uniform. Told me that he would throw the shot and would go inside and work out his football team. Come back outside to run the 100 meters. Throw the discus and run on a relay team. Yes, I stayed to watch the shot put and, of course, the 100 meters.

Kyle has all of the physical tools. A natural bender. Long arms and slender at 320(listed). Could easily add another 25 pounds. Excellent feet. Moves very well as a pass blocker. Great hips. Excellent lead blocker on inside or outside trap. Excellent quickness off the LOS. I mean the kid is specimen. With many college coaches in attendance, he hustled every play. Every play! Team leader.

Sam Webb: Cleveland Heights offensive tackle Kyle Dodson is a kid that can't hide the fact that he has been waiting on an Ohio State offer. That said, he seemed fairly shocked by Tressel's departure. Michigan State is the school that offered him first and that really seemed to resonate with him. He also had a strong visit to Michigan. Is there an opening for the Spartans and Wolverines with the 6-6, 320-pounder?

Allen Trieu: I think it will be interesting to see what happens if Ohio State does offer. I know they were waiting on an ACT score and it will probably take some time to get that back. I think if Kyle waits to make a decision and if Ohio State has a great season where they win a conference title and they offer him, I think Ohio State still leads for him. If these other schools are able to get him to make a decision sooner, I think that will lessen the chance that an Ohio State offer will sway him.

Dave Berk: I think it is an open game right now for Kyle. He will be a guy that Ohio State may now have to take a quicker approach with, just for the fact that they might not be able to get some of the targets that they had higher on their board. I do feel right now that both Michigan and Michigan State and several other programs are doing a good job of recruiting Kyle and I think it is an open game with him.

Bill Greene: I think he does want the Ohio State offer. He has not really made that a secret. But it never comes. If you eliminate Ohio State and say they don't offer him, then I think he is another one that is wide open. Now, he is a kid that I could see going far from home. I think Auburn has really made a nice impression on Kyle. He has visited there unofficially and he does have family down there, too. I know he likes Michigan State. They have been in his school. They've been very active in recruiting him. I would say Michigan State is in far better position than say Notre Dame or Michigan. He has made it pretty clear he wants the Ohio State offer. Now if he still feels that way with Tressel being gone, I don't know. I think Michigan State has a good shot at him if he stays in the area, but I think Auburn is one to fear there.

Marc Gilver of Rivals is stating that OSU has offered.

Awesome! If we can pull him in, it might be just what we need to really get some momentum (combined with Powell and Murray committing) going on the recruting trail. The statement by some Ohio kids that OSU is still OSU, no matter the coach or NCAA, is what we need to help swing some of the kids who may be on the fence.
