OL Reid Fragel (Official Thread)

Reid dominated today on the O line and unless I had too many Heineken drafts, I did see that he pancaked William Gholston.

I think that alone would qualify him for Sundays in the NFL.

Senior Bowl breakdowns on Ohio State Buckeyes seniors Reid Fragel By Doug Lesmerises, The Plain Dealer

COLUMBUS, Ohio ? Reid Fragel was thinking about the NFL, at least in part, when he made the move from tight end to right tackle. The comparison to Colorado's Nate Solder - though Solder made the same position change much earlier in his college career - has been mentioned by Fragel and others, and Solder went on to be a first-round draft pick of the New England Patriots in 2011.

Fragel's move, pondered by many since he arrived at Ohio State, came late. But he's making up for lost time.

?Reid Fragel has become an offensive lineman,? OSU coach Urban Meyer said this week. ?He wasn't an offensive lineman at first. Who are we kidding? He was a tight end, trying to figure it out. His last two games he's now an Ohio State offensive lineman. When you say that around here, that's powerful stuff.?

So he's got a chance. In Fragel's profile (pdf) put out by Senior Bowl executive director and former Browns GM Phil Savage, the phrase ?intriguing player? was used. That's one way to say no one is sure just how he projects because he's so new to the position. But he's got a chance.

?If he will understand and embrace the opportunity in front of him, the ceiling for him could be as a potential starter in the league,? Savage wrote. ?Otherwise, his floor will be as a journeyman developmental candidate that has the physical traits and a questionable football temperament.?

Ohio State's Reid Fragel: I'm definitely better at right tackle
The Buckeyes' offensive lineman made the switch this year from tight end.

Ohio State offensive tackle Reid Fragel. "Ohio State's Reid Fragel changed positions before his senior year, and it's worked out well for the Buckeyes ... and maybe even better for his future." Ohio State's vs Nebraska on Saturday, October 6, 2012. submitted (Kirk Irwin)

For three years, he was an average, no-name tight end splitting time for the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Then Reid Fragel decided on a prudent and yet bold decision:

He would lobby the new coaching staff to change positions before his senior year.

On one level it was strictly a wise, team-oriented proposal, since the Buckeyes were in much greater need of a dependable right tackle on the offensive line than they were of part-time, blocking tight end.

But there were other motives, too.

Like how Fragel saw his future hope of playing professionally coming as a lineman.

And there's this: The big kid simply likes to block.

On Saturday, he will have his hands full with Penn State's young, frisky defensive ends.

"It just that feeling you get when your assignment is done and you see your running back busting right behind you for a big gain ... Something about that excites me.

"There's no better feeling than having the guy you're blocking crumple right in front of you."

Great game by Fragel.

TD runs to the right all night. I think the no-call on Braxton's run could've gone either way, but he absolutely cut the legs out from underneath his man on Hyde's TD in the 2nd Q.
