Game Thread Orange Bowl: tOSU vs Clemson, Jan 3, 8:30 ET, ESPN

Agreed. We need the practice for our returning players for next year and some momentum heading into next year. Considering the 1-loss team could get us in the playoffs, there is certainly some validity to that. The perception of the Big Ten is at an all-time low and hopefully we can get that up this season. I really think we can, as I do believe that Iowa, Wisconsin, Sparty, and perhaps Minnesota all have very solid teams that could get bowl wins. Even our lower tier Penn State, scUM, and Nebraska teams could get wins with the right matchups. However, our game might be the biggest because Clemson is still perceived to have a great team and I would like to see the Big Ten #2 take down the ACC #2. And finally, we do owe it to our seniors to try and send them off on the right note. These guys have been through so much adversity and choose to stick with the program until the very end.

All that being said, the real reason for the massive hangover is losing the last game. I know at least personally that if we had say lost to Wisconsin, then beat scUM and Sparty to go to the Orange (which I know would actually be the Rose, just saying this for argument sake), then a one-loss season and BCS bowl seems much better. But losing in the last game and losing a shot at not only the NCG, but also the Rose, is a devastating downgrade to palate last minute. I know the Orange is a BCS game, but it does not feel like it. Personally, I just don't see much of a difference between the Orange, Gator Bowl, Alamo, etc. The Rose Bowl would have been a different story. Regardless, come January 3rd I will have my new Buckeyes pullover on and will be rooting on my Bucks with my dad back in Ohio the same as any January.

If we lost to Wisconsin we wouldn't have played for the Big Ten title and might not even be in the Orange Bowl. That was one of the two we had to win to get to Pasadena, the other was of course MSU. A fluke loss to Northwestern, Illinois, Indiana, etc. as our only loss and we would have gotten to the Rose. I would have been more hyped, and I think the season would have been thought of as more of a success. But still excited to play a very winnable game against a top team in the Orange Bowl. We have a shot at a 13-1 season and a BCS Bowl win. I've got to call that a success. I've told people for years that the reason it's great to be a Buckeye (in my lifetime) is that we are a steady 10+ win team. We're always in contention for a title and it is very exciting. There aren't many perennial top-10 teams. Not saying we're immune; I really only started watching football since the late 90s early 00s and it's been great. No other team has had that steady of a success during the BCS. That said, I would like to see a National Title or so here in the next couple of years.

OHsportsfan's post about us possibly winning every BCS bowl in the BCS era is enough to get me excited for this one. I'm always pumped for all buckeye football games though... we only get so many a year

Anyone here who would have predicted ten years ago that the words "shoot-out" would be used to describe the likely outcome of a Buckeye bowl game? I mean, a win is a win, but I didn't think I'd see that one.

Sammy Watkins has to be licking his chops.

Wonder how many times we will hear the Woody vs. Charlie Baumann reference? :roll1:
Well the subject is pretty popular down here in Jacksonville with the local sports talk shows already,
plus all the talk about how happy the Florida fans are after Urban Liar lost to MSU. It's really funny
how they can't let go of the fact that he Lied about his health.

He didn't lie about his health. He got himself worked up to the point where he had acute anxiety and panic attacks. I have been through it myself, and you do feel like you might die since you can't breathe, your heart races, and you mind goes crazy thinking about, well, everything (like your life flashing before your eyes type of thing). It is hard to describe, but it sucks to say the least.

I can't even talk college football with most people down here because it all comes back to Urban and how he left UF, or that the Buckeyes "stole" the 2002 NC from Thug U.
