so we like Tyus over Turner or is it a toss-up/first one to commit type of situation? this would give us Diebler, Koufos, Madsen, Lauderdale and Tyus all coming in in 2007? is PG not a need since Conley and Butler will have two years together and Ofutt is coming in '08?

trying to visualize things, if Mayes is the only one leaving:

2007

PG: Butler (JR) Conley (FR)
SG: Cook (FR) Lighty (FR)
SF: Lewis (SR) Lighty (FR)
PF: Terwilliger (JR) Harris (SR) Hunter (SO)
C: Oden (FR) Bell (SO) Lauderdale (FR)

2008

-assuming everyone stays for a 2nd year (which I think will happen)
-assuming we don't offer Jackson and get one of Tyus or Turner

PG: Butler (SR) Conley (SO)
SG: Cook (SO) Diebler (FR)
SF: Lighty (SO) Koufos (FR) Tyus?/Turner? (FR)
PF: Terwilliger (SR) Madsen (SO) Hunter (JR)
C: Oden (SO) Bell (JR) Lauderdale (SO)

2009

-assuming Cook and Oden leave
-assuming Offutt plays the 1/2
-assuming we go hard after Crater and Roe

PG: Conley (JR) Offutt (FR) Crater? (FR)
SG: Diebler (SO) Offutt (FR)
SF: Lighty (JR) Tyus/Turner? (SO) Roe? (FR)
PF: Koufos (SO) Madsen (JR) Hunter (SR)
C: Bell (SR) Lauderdale (SO) Mullens (FR)

And with Hunter and Bell graduating and the possibilty that Koufos could go early, that could open things up for Van Tresse in 2010...

Junkie/cbf40/anyone - thoughts?

I think you are forgetting the possibility of us getting Buford. I think we have a better shot at him than we do at Crater and he could also fill 2 positions.

Also, where does that leave us with Mayo? or do we just forget about him?

Wad, you've got Lauderdale in the wrong class, and I think Hunter is coming in as a Jr.

That is correct, Hunter will have two years of eligibility left.

Also, where does that leave us with Mayo? or do we just forget about him?

Mayo is an extreme longshot and with no credible info, we have to assume such.

Wadc......not much to add really to your projections.....personally I would take the first one to verbal at this point, both Tyus and Turner are very good players.....

Not to get to far off of topic but I believe we have offers out to the following at this point...

2007 Julian Vaughn (most likely will go to the ACC)
2007 Solomon Alibi (likely heading to Florida State with Lauderdale in the fold)
2007 Joshua Southern (could end up at Kentucky)
2007 Evan Turner (Illinois is the leader.....to early to tell, visited tOSU recently)
2007 Demetri McCamey
2007 Alex Tyus (staff reportedly wants a wing in this 2007 class, Tyus may be it)
2008 Delvon Roe (May be the top target in the 2008 class)
2008 Anthony Crater (May be hard to get him away from Michigan State)
2008 Yancey Gates (could be a hard one to get from all reports, its early)
2009 Stephen Van Tresse (Really early on him)

A couple of sleepers could be Dante Jackson in the 2007 class and William Buford in the 2008 class. Matta is so hot right now, whoever he wants, I have to believe he will eventually get them.

ok, so the corrected version would look like this (I had Lauderdale right at the end, but forgot to go back and correct the first couple of years):

2007

PG: Butler (JR) Conley (FR)
SG: Cook (FR) Lighty (FR)
SF: Lewis (SR) Lighty (FR)
PF: Terwilliger (JR) Harris (SR) Hunter (JR)
C: Oden (FR) Bell (SO)

(FR)
PF: Terwilliger (SR) Madsen (SO) Hunter (SR)
C: Oden (SO) Bell (JR) Lauderdale (FR)

2009

-assuming Cook and Oden leave
-assuming Offutt plays the 1/2
-assuming we go hard after Crater and Roe

PG: Conley (JR) Offutt (FR) Crater? (FR)
SG: Diebler (SO) Offutt (FR)
SF: Lighty (JR) Tyus/Turner? (SO) Roe? (FR)
PF: Koufos (SO) Madsen (JR)
C: Bell (SR) Lauderdale (SO) Mullens (FR)

That 2009 lineup is pretty impressive as well...despite Oden not being there. Diebler will have a chance to put up big numbers if he can earn the starting job after Cook leaves. If Lauderdale and Koufos end up at the 5 and 4 respectively, with guys like Lighty, Tyus/Turner and Roe manning the wing, guys like Conley and Offutt will have a field day distributing the rock.

I like your lineup, and prefer tyus/turner over mayo... simply for depth. After 07 OSU wil lose butler, twigs and hunter, and could lose Oden, Cook & Koufos. Mayo is enormously talented, but OSU does not need him at the point (Butler's 4th year, conley's 2nd year)... and would be another defection before the 08 season.

if you can land mayo, you clear out port columbus to get him in columbus. if he wants to come here, id be down right shocked if matta turned him down, then agian it happened with lebron...

great work all. I still can't believe OSU is considered one of the top programs to play for. When it should have been .It was driving me nuts , when OSU built that value city/schottenstien. I like it better then the gund areana. I thought that was the beginningof greatness but, still need a coach that can build the team to play in a great place.

For years, I was stuck only thinking that OSU could only be a top 25 team at best before, Matta. Now they have to feel like a DUKE, NC, UCLA,FLORIDA,MEMPHIS,MSU,ILLINIOS,KANSAS AND TEXAS. Sure I missed a few other top programs but, Matta has made OSU an easy top 5 team for every year in the future.

I still can't believe any top player in the country that OSU has a great chance with.

Matta/Tressel will go down as the best coaches ever at the same time in OSU history.

mayo is enormously talented, but will only be here one year, while OSU has one of the best pg's in Butler (entering his 4th year as a starter) and a solid backup in conley. Tyus/Turner may fill a bigger need at the 3 (especially if Cook leaves early or Diebler needs to redshirt), and continue to do so in 08 and beyond (hopefully).
