Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

It's funny a bunch of message board idiots think they know better than the PSU lawyer brain trust. Organizations don't typically toss around $93mm to make problems disappear unless they know they're liable.

The massive sum of PSU's settlement payouts thus far is their admission of culpability. PSU football fans need to accept it and move on.

not possible. by acknowledging the university's culpability in turning a blind eye to a pedophile in order to preserve the sanctity of the football program, they must then ultimately accept that Dear Leader is also culpable.

You mean like the way a bunch of messageboard people think they know better than coaches on the field? You are surprised by this?

Better headline would have said "Franklin tells OC to hit the showers."

Here's epradelli

He said "look him up", so I did.

I feel sorry for the alumni or fans that are rational or embarrassed by what Joesus and his underlings allowed to go on for the sake of the holy 409 and some phony image. The university has been hijacked by crazies who would gleefully destroy their entire university for the sake of a dead football coach they never met. The last four years have confirmed everything Freeh and Emmert said about an out of control culture where football comes above everything else.

So wait, they think that because the insurance company doesn't want to pay the settlement figures, the insurance company is on their side (i.e., that the alleged incidents didn't occur)!? A 5 second google search pulled up numerous articles on the insurance company's lawsuit. Lo and behold, the insurance company is arguing that the alleged incidents are not covered by the insurance policy. Also, PSU's insurance policy apparently excludes damages related to intentional acts. Either way, and I'm sure it's more complicated but I'm not spending more than 5 minutes researching this issue, the insurance company's claim has nothing to do with the alleged incidents but rather to do with the limits of the insurance policy.

EDIT: I reread some of the posts in the thread and I actually don't understand why they are bringing up the insurance company's claims. Frankly I don't care. Apologies in advance if I attacked a strawman.

I'm not sure what the thread starts out talking about. But they quickly start talking about how the rest of the schools in the Big Ten were happy to see the sanctions hit Penn State.

Yes they did, for 2 reasons. It limited our ability to compete and it "put us in our place". I think the OSUs and Michigans were sick of the elevation of Joe Paterno to legendary status and were gleeful at the destruction of his name and legacy by our BOT.

Quite on the contrary, in my opinion. 5 years ago, I was all-in on the Big Ten. I rooted for Michigan in bowl games (though I did cheer a lot when they lost to Appalachian State). I rooted for Penn State to win bowl games and all out-of-conference games. That's all since changed a lot, but not because of Penn State. But I liked Penn State, to a degree. I knew their fans were total shitbags, and their players were bags of shit. But Paterno - he was a kindly grandfather who I liked to hear in his press conferences. I had not problems with him, anyway. So when I found out about Sandusky, I was in the "no way did Paterno know about this" crowd. As I learned more and more about it, I've changed my mind, of course. But for a long time I was in the "crap - it's gonna be a while before Penn State can pull its weight (finally) in restoring this conference to awesomeness" camp, and said, "great - one of our greatest icons now has shit on his face."

I didn't become anti-Penn State until the truth started coming out. Now I wish the Big Ten had replaced Penn State with a pound of chicken wings.

Alumni elected BOT member Alice Pope (a Joebot) stops by BWI for a meet and greet with the cult. That's the third or forth BOT member to post on BWI. Can you imagine Wexner stopping by a football message board to give an update and take questions on the Jon Waters situation? These people are completely out of their minds.

The Cult is not going to like this. A PSU professor emeritus, Ronald A. Smith, has a book coming out early next year that appears as though it will tell THE TRUTH!!! about PSU covering up anything that would make the football program look bad and a program/university that was out of control.

The book previews refer to PSU as a "rogue program" that operated "free of oversight." A preview of the book says that it is a "myth-shattering account of misplaced priorities." Additionally, the previews say "The Sandusky case was far from the first example of illegal behavior related to the football program or the university's attempts to suppress news of it."

Another quote from the preview says, "Smith also details a system that concealed Sandusky's horrific acts just as deftly as it whitewashed years of rules violations, coaching malfeasance, and player crime while Paterno set records and raised hundreds of millions of dollars for the university."
