Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

File Under: For the Record

What you see on the various State Penn boards is not all trolls. I met one of 'them' in real life tonight. He spoke from the Gospel of St. Joe and had the entire party line down pat. I probed for insight and it was straight out of their forums.

While watching from the sideline has been interesting to say the least, a part of me has always believed that there was a good bit of trolling that drove the recent perception. I can honestly say that my beliefs were dis-confirmed in spades tonight.

All I can say after that conversation is, my God...

I'm telling you it's like 90% of their fanbase. There are people who are successful in their normal lives, and as soon as the topic of Penn State comes up you don't know if you should chop their heads off to kill whatever disease must have infected their brains or just flat out run away before you end up doing the same to yourself just to get away.

I have an alumni friend and her attitude is "they all do it"! WTF? The delusion is strong in that group! The culture is rotten to the core. Probation for 4 years won't make it normal in any way shape or form.

I'm pretty sure my wife's, brother's, wife's, sister's, husband (hopefully saying it that way makes him absolutely nothing to me) is a cult member. He grew up in Cbus and his parents are hardcore Buckeyes, but his brother-in-law (doesn't seem to be a mutant) played for JoPa and the guy has been all over JoPa's nuts ever since. We were up at their house a couple weeks ago and I was almost tempted to jump on his laptop and find out his BWI name because I'm sure he's bringing it.

You can tell the true cult members by the fact that they sport even more Ped State gear now than they did a year ago.

Wait... they all do what? I REALLY hope she doesn't think all coaches molest children.

sales of 409 and JVP stickers on cars have gone up 3000%

Other than the horror that underlies this whole mess, my second biggest regret is not being quicker on the draw to fleece those dumb motherfuckers out of money with some of this 409/cardboard Joe stuff.

Let's see. We've taken away their Bowl games, 11 years of wins, BTN money, scholarships, and now touchdowns. Don't these dumb motherfuckers take a hint. We want to break up with you, you psycho bitch. Get the fuck out...

Just overheard this on the tv behind me while reading this thread and chuckled. Carlton is a prophet.

More fuel for the conspiracy theorists....

One thing I know for sure - they'd never get treated this poorly if they were in the ACC.....

'Technical glitch’ temporarily removes PSU from NCAA merchandise store
Posted by Ben Kercheval on November 13, 2012, 1:58 PM EST

NCAA president Mark Emmert said this summer after levying severe sanctions against Penn State that the school perpetuated “a ‘football first’ culture that ultimately enabled [former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky's] serial child sexual abuse to occur.”

Despite that statement, the NCAA’s online merchandise shop did not recognize Penn State and its “football first culture” as a one of the Top 100 teams in college athletics when it comes to sales today — even though Penn State is one of the top athletic departments in the country in terms of revenue.

In fact, Penn State wasn’t even listed on the “All Teams” portion of the online shop. Coincidence? Cory Giger of the Altoona Mirror made some phone calls to the website and was given two different answers; whether or not you care to believe them is your decision to make. Here’s the site’s response to the inquiry:

“As of today, the NCAA has taken all the Penn State merchandise off our website, so until we’re further updated … we don’t know what’s happening. They won’t let exactly us know why. But it is off the site,” a customer service representative said at about 10:45 a.m.

A few minutes later, Meier Ravich, vice president of communications for the website’s owner, Fanatics Retail Group, explained why the Penn State merchandise was not available.

“It’s a technical glitch that’s preventing the Penn State merchandise from appearing on the site,” he said. “They’re working to get it back up. It should be up very shortly.”

Ravich couldn’t give an exact time for when the Penn State merchandise would be available but noted, “it should be up soon.”

As a certain consulting duo from “Office Space” would say, “We’ve fixed the glitch.”

(Actually, the “glitch” has been fixed; the Penn State page is back up)
