Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

Wait. There are people somewhere dumb enough to think Hackenburg will be the #1 overall pick in the next draft?

Apparently, McShay listed him #1 overall in this too-early-2016-mock-nfl-draft. (I'm guessing this was covered in the ESPiN looking stupid thread as well...) Anyway, here's the link: http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draf...-tops-way-too-early-2016-mock-draft-nfl-draft

This dude then wrote an article stating that McShay is a moron for naming Hack #1. Here is the link to that article: http://www.dailylocal.com/sports/20150517/penn-states-hackenberg-is-far-from-a-top-pick

Apparently, the cultsters are up in arms about his opinion not anointing Hack as the next Jamarcus Russell, and let him know about it. As a response to the pitchfork and torch crowd, he then wrote another article about it.

Hackenburg's career has been largely disappointing so far. Sure, he came in under less-than-ideal circumstances, but he had the opportunity to go elsewhere. If his numbers don't improve over last season's, I can see Franklin looking to someone else late in the season.

I'm probably higher on Hackenburg as a pro than most non-cult members, but [Mark May] man....Do one rational thing, Penn State fans. Just one. I'd love to see it in my lifetime.
The funny thing is, after the regular season was over last year, the cult was hoping that Hack would transfer out. Then he had a good game in the Podunk Bowl, and he was the bestest ever QB (anointed by the Spirit of Joesus) to ever grace a field! :slappy:

Just my opinion, but I think Hack has played pretty well. The thrashing laid on the team and Hack by the Buckeyes in 13 featured a number of dropped passes and the obvious fact that he only had one receiver he could consistently count on to catch the ball. It's hard to blame him for last year's overtime loss - he didn't call for a play where an undersized running back is assigned to block Bosa.

I respect the fact that he held to his commitment to Penn State. I can think of some Ohio boys who ended up at TSUN who I wish had shown the same kind of loyalty. He hasn't had much in the way of talent around him, yet I haven't seen him bad mouth his teammates or his coaches. From what little I know about QBs he's mechanically sound in all the aspects most NFL scouts are looking for and while I'd much rather have a healthy Braxton or JT than Hack, I can see where an NFL scout might see things in reverse.

You're a bigger buzzkill than Sir Buzz Killington.

He has been a little twat on the sidelines when his blocking isn't there or WRs drop passes. That's what makes him a perfect Penn Stater to me. He knew or should have known going in to it that 1) He wouldn't have the talent around him and 2) He wouldn't have his QB whisperer coach for long. But he still stuck with them. Which is fine from a loyalty standpoint....more power to you. Just don't cry when it bites you in the ass.

I'll always think it's a bad decision to go to that shit hole school.....but if you're looking at strictly a business type decision of how to get to the next level, that wasn't a smart choice. Sure you have the OC from the Patriots as your head coach, but that wasn't going to out weigh not having anybody to throw to, anybody to block for you, and anybody to run the ball taking pressure off your throws. He signed up for this.

Eh, he's been ok - at best.... If you look at his game-by-game stats below, and didn't know who's they were, would you say this QB should be in the Heisman discussion, or mentioned as a possible #1 overall pick?

I can understand the hype after his Frosh year. For a 1st year QB especially, that's an outstanding season.
For whatever reason he's getting a complete pass on his 2nd year -- which was terrible and if there was anyone else on the roster, career threatening. And the hype has continued as if that 2nd year was just as good as the 1st rather than an abhorrent train wreck.

He's not the only one getting such a pass though... the #1 overall pick in the Draft had a pretty terrible year too and everyone acted like it was just as good as the season before that.

Well, the pedsters themselves were ready to throw him into the fire, before he lifted the holy corpse of JoePed onto his shoulders and carried it to victory in the magnificent and glorious battle of the Pinstripe Bowl.

I have to say something here, and don't know if this is the right thread or not. But one can look at the major elements of this situation, the crimes committed, the coverup, the exposition, the hero worship, the cultish collective damage control, the pejorative denial of wrongdoing by a supposed hero that the vast majority of the loudest people never met...and hope this was restricted to this one group of people. But I just read an article, and the subsequent hundreds of comments, about the Duggars, and Josh Duggar in particular, and had to make sure it wasn't BWI. All of the same elements of the claimed denial...minimaztion, other people are jealous, anyone will tear down a hero...were present in droves. But this time, its nor restricted to a school, or religious sect...its a large cross-section of people saying things you can't believe you are reading. I am a giant pessimist, but this really, really makes me realize we are all, as a society, exponentially more fucked than I ever realized.

Sorry, carry on, I just thought the parallels were frightening.

And they aren't just PSU people and McShay...they had a big thing during the draft and he was listed at the top. I was shocked myself, but that seems to be all the rage right now.
