Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

Most of the thread seems to be "meh". I guess Delaney is rooting for reduced sanctions, or something. But Southern PA Buck Hunter comes in saying that he wants Joesus's name put back on the trophy. His name was removed before it was ever awarded to anyone. My question, that I have yet to receive a good answer to, is, "Why was his name on the trophy to begin with?" In his 19 years, he won 3 Big Ten championships. 95 conference wins in 19 years. What's that, 5 wins a season? Tressel got 67 wins in 10 years, or 6.7 wins a season, plus 7 conference championships. For corn sakes, John Cooper got 70 conference wins in 13 years (just under 5.5 wins a year) and he got 3 conference championships, too.

I just don't get it.

Maybe longevity is what gets your name on the trophy? Bo Schembechler coached a Big Ten team for 20 years or so. Woody Hayes coached for 28 years. I'm not going to research the number of wins they each got, or conference championships.

But it's the blorpin' conference championship trophy. You name it after someone who won a lot of conference championships. You don't name it after Northwestern, or Wisconsin. You don't name the SEC championship trophy after someone from Vanderbilt or South Carolina. That South Carolina example may be perfect, as they joined the SEC soon before Penn State joined the Big Ten. Should the SEC championship trophy be named for Lou Holtz? For Steve Spurrier? Those two guys are/were about on pace to win as many SEC championships in 19 years as the number of Big Ten championships Joe Paterno won. Or, screw it - name the SEC championship trophy after Paterno. He's only 3 SEC championships away from tying his incredible mark of 3 conference championships in the Big Ten.

Blarg. Aside from the elephant in the room (Sandusky scandal), let's just say Paterno was the man the cult thinks he was. Name the "kick-ass coach of the year" award after Paterno, I guess. I would find that pretty gross, but at least you aren't besmirching the championship trophy with the name of someone who repeatedly failed to win a championship.
Any conference that named Dave Winfield to its top fifty athletes list would name a trophy after Joesus. Why not Stagg?

Just another Pedster cult member..... "Pole voter" smh......

I cannot believe this guy got away with this degradation of Joesus......

If I understand what I'm reading (and I like to think that I do), he is saying that the only reason PedState ever lost to Iowa was because Ferentz knew what plays Joesus' offensive staff was calling........ Now, some context - since 2000, Iowa is 8-3 against the Pedsters, with two of those losses coming A.J. (After Joesus).....

Let that sink in for a minute.....

The almighty Joesus failed? He was outcoached by some schlub from IOWA?! He actually lost multiple games that weren't the result of crooked officials or dumb luck? Blasphemy will not be tolerated in these parts, sir!!!

Not only that, but he says that when O'Brien and (now that) Franklin are in charge, they'll be better? So, Joesus is the third best coach they've had in the last four (if you count Bradley - who filled in after Joesus was crucified - I mean fired).

No they have no problem blaming losses on Paterno related things when it means they're not giving credit to anybody else. In their heads, the actions of Penn State or outside forces are the only things that influence games. Either Penn State won, Penn State did something uncharacteristically Penn State and somehow lost, or of course they got fucked by the refs. In no scenario does another team just beat them.

But you'll notice...it wasn't Paterno that failed. It was his staff. They can't ever actually admit to any flaws of his.

Nooooooooo! A magician should never reveal his secret! You're ruining the fun...

But to address the "pole voters" in Ohio, it wouldn't have been enough to give them the 1994 national championship. If EVERY voter in the Big Ten footprint had voted Penn State #1 (including the 4 or so Ohio voters), and Nebraska #2, they still wouldn't have been #1.

What other season(s) might they have been #1 in the polls or in the Big Ten? I can see how they whine about 2005 against Michigan (I wish I could find the youtube video that proves them wrong), but they already claim that Big Ten championship.

Yep, and the Great Lakes voters treated them better than every other region, including their beloved NE and Mid-Atlantic. They just can't fathom the fact that some Midwestern voters might have sincerely believed that the Corn was better just like they can't fathom that honest, unbiased refs might actually make calls that go against them.

And quite honestly, losing to Michigan was the best thing that ever could have happened to Joesus. USC or Texas would have absolutely plunger raped him.
