Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

I'm starting to hit the wall with BWI. I get the feeling it's like a support group for grown men to sit around and cry. And it's not like Alcoholics Anonymous, or something where they're trying to make their lives better. They're whining about a mother-blarkin' football coach. "Waaa. They said bad things about our coach." "Boo-hoo. They don't respect our football team." "YOU'LL ALL PAY FOR THE WAY YOU TREATED US!!!" What are the 5 stages of coping? Never mind - I found it: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, Acceptance. I'd bet you can find people of all 5 of those starges on that board. If you could sort through one person's posts, you might even be able to follow his transition from one stage to the next. Except for maybe the last one: acceptance. I'm guessing that when people finally accept that their coach was a pedophile-enabler, they get ridiculed off the board. Or else they peer-pressure each other backwards from one stage to the one before, and a majority of them seem to be stuck at "denial".

Anyway, I feel sorry for anyone who lives in that state who is not a Penn State fan, and can't choose to turn off that noise, the way I simply can close my browser.

They're all over it justifying it too.
The comments prove the author right: myopic indeed.

The overwhelming majority are definitely stuck in a mix of denial and outrage.
Unfortunately that outrage isn't directed at anyone deserving of it.

A charter plane arrived in Dublin yesterday carrying 118 Penn State University gridiron players, just under 200 support staff, and one very troubled ghost. See, wherever this team goes these days, they are always accompanied by the spectre of Joe Paterno.

Eh, we Irish, we're easily confused (probably from all the drinkin', or maybe it's left-over malnourishment from the potato famine)...that was no "spectre". The team just bought an extra seat on the plane for Franco's cardboard Joe. (In first class, of course.)

It been an odd progression... after Freeh came out a lot of them said the school deserved to be punished and that was a dark day at PSU - almost to the acceptance level. But then within a few months Blehar and Ziegler are writing articles that implicate that Pedterno was "framed" and the majority of them revert back to denial/anger. And they have been stuck there since and at this point they are not coming back to reality.
