PG Shannon Scott (Long Island Nets - NBA G-League)

Starting to see glimpses of why matta wanted him in scarlet n gray so badly. Kid has good size and is pretty damn quick. Looks like a completely different player

It took Shannon a year to adjust to the college game, but he's arrived now. Going to be fun to watch the next 3 years.

Not sure it's possible to "arrive" against the UMKC Kangaroos. But next game...if Shannon can do more of the same, I definitely think you can make that statement. :wink2:

Was at the game last night. I don't care if the competition was poor last night, Shannon Scott and Sam Thompson look worldly better out there. Both have put on some muscle and just appear more comfortable. He's also tenacious on defense, which is something Matta will have to exploit in the frontcourt this year with arguably the best all around defender in the conference with Craft.

In retrospect, Shannon Scott cannot be blamed for feeling ? and playing ? as he did for much of last season as a freshman.

He was Aaron Craft?s backup, which meant his minutes on the Ohio State basketball team would be few behind an ironman point guard that coach Thad Matta was reluctant to rest. As a result, Scott said he played anxiously because he wanted to make something happen fast, but also cautiously because he didn?t want that something to be bad.

?I was probably thinking about not turning the ball over too much,? he said. ?I was trying to make sure every (pass) was a perfect pass.

?Now, I?m just being free and letting it go.?
And still not turning it over.

Scott?s playmaking on offense and his ability to stalk opposing ballhandlers on defense have made him one of the early-season pluses on a Buckeyes team that is still finding out how much it is going to be able to count on Scott and four sophomore teammates who were rated the sixth-best recruiting class in the nation in 2011.

As Matta said he would before the season, he has moved Craft, a junior and preseason all-Big Ten pick, off the ball more to make room for Scott, whose 33 assists and five turnovers compute to a 6.6-to-1 ratio that is by far the best among Big Ten players and is seventh-best nationally.

Scott is playing an average of 19.6 minutes per game, nearly twice what he did as a freshman.

?I could not be happier for Shannon in terms of him just letting go and getting into the flow, having a sixth sense out there of what he needs to bring,? Matta said. ?It?s a lot like I said last year late in the season: We had two attackers out there (in Craft and Scott together). I love the completeness of that unit.?

Bump for last night and his recent run of performances. Shannon comes in and instantly makes us a more dangerous team. He was outstanding last night, and its awesome to see him continue to improve. Checked on his shooting stats, and he's a respectable 36% from beyond the arc. Not setting the world on fire, but you can tell he's getting more comfortable.

Keep it up Shannon! :oh:

big time defensive performance last night. Need that going forward. He is showing the ability to turn the corner using ball screens and being more aggressive going to the bucket too. Even missed aggressive shots going at the basket are fine with me b/c it causes the defense to rotate and it leaves guys open for easy put-back 2nd chance points on the boards.

Rarely rewatch a BBall game - but just finished doing so with the IU game.

Scott was simply magnificent.

This entire soph class is getting closer and closer to its potential.

Really happy with how Scott played against IU. He has a good all-around game, just needs to keep improving his shooting, and be a little better at keeping guys from driving by him. He's still got 2 years left - imagine if he starts shooting off the dribble with confidence! Very good prospect - could have a breakout year if he gets his shooting down, and he's made a lot of improvement over last year in terms of shooting.
