WR Braxton Miller (B1G POY, National Champion)

It depends on what Braxton wants. Maybe he doesn't want to play anywhere but QB. You can argue all you want about who is better than what the fuck ever blah blah blah, but in the hypothetical where Brax's arm is full go, he's my QB. You don't lose your job to injury.

Braxton took the 2012 team undefeated.
His arm was better than people are remembering.
The offense wasn't the machine it became this year. Period. No way you could plug in two other qb's last year and not miss a beat. No. Fucking. Way.
Couple things here....

1st you are right Braxton has as strong as arm as anyone on our team (CJ included) and the majority of all of the college football, but that's gone now due to his Injury. You don't come back from two right shoulder surgeries and just pick up where you left off. Maybe after a few months to build up strength but BM's problem right now is he's scheduled to start throwing around the time we go to camp in the fall leaving him almost zero chance to build that strength up. Now I don't know about you but count me in the group that doesn't want him coming back rushing it just so we can see #5 at QB because straight up I bet he re injures himself if he rushes it. Do it right, and doing it right won't get him back on the field until probably B1G play and by then it's too late you can't switch.

2nd- Tell Drew Bledsoe you don't lose your job to injury (Or Mox from Varsity Blues) because without that Injury Tom Brady never gets his shot and then who knows if he ever gets his shot and please spare me the deflated ball issue that's besides the point. Just because you earn the job once doesn't mean you always have that job if you get hurt but rather it does something else. What it does is it guarantee's you that you will have every opportunity to earn that spot back once you come back from injury. Being hurt for a week I get but when you are out for 15-24 months that's a little bit different and you have to consider what your replacement did in the meantime. Those replacements? Combined won a national title with a young and inexperienced team as well as set dozens of records along the way.

The one variable is that the 2014-2015 squad was a better team than what Braxton had. I'm tempted to say his intermediate and short throws are what separates him from JT, but who can tell? Oh yeah, Urban.
So a offense returning 1 starting lineman, lost their best WR, lost their best RB, as well as 2 lost first rounders on defense, also without their starting TWO rush defensive ends, and lost their kicker and they're still a better team? We may have finished a better team this year but perhaps we should give JT and Cardale some credit for what they did and that is they elevated the play of those around them.

There's no way I'm not giving JT or Cardale credit. Period. I didn't feel the need to go into it in a Brax thread. I did allude to it with my remark about accuracy. None of the receivers have the season they do without JT and CJ playing. Their influence on the safeties helped allow Eze to go for 200 yards against everyone late in the year.

That being said, I still contend that minus the players leaving it was still a better team. Lost Roby/Shazier/Spence-all three levels of the D were markedly improved. How much of that is coaching/maturing of players?

This 100% and also throw in Kurt Warner who ended up taking the Rams job from an injured Trent Green

Braxton enjoyed playing QB but in my mind, he did not enjoy carrying the ball so much last year and getting hit so much. When healed and back, I doubt he will want to take more pounding and risk injury again. The maturity of the OL and Ezekiel would indicate that he will be asked to carry the ball less often, but his skill set would still require for the read option especially if his passing is not better than a year ago. He should compete for the job. If he wins out, that means he beat two very good QBs and the coaches do believe he is the best man for the job and will try to protect him as much as they can with less read option and playing the second guy often. If he loses the job, it means he is not the best man and the coaches think the team will line up more behind another guy. It will also mean that in the NFL he is unlikely to win a starting job as QB. in that case, playing WR would give him the best chance to showcase his athletesism, speed, and blocking skills, whack I think he can develop. His YAC might be enough to make NFL guys think. Finally playing WR will minimize the hits.

I see a lot of talk about professional athletes losing jobs to injury. That's swell and all but I'm not talking about professional sports. Also, the hypothetical i was engaged in was presuming Braxton had no lingering effects from his injury. If a guy has his leg amputated, you should probably find another anchor for your relay team.

It doesn't matter if it's professional or not IMO kyle. What we can't take away from the other guys is they together broke records and won a National Title and while Brax is certainly one of my favorite buckeyes (only jersey I own) you can't argue with this years results. Either way I look forward to seeing 5 out there breaking ankles because at the very least he will be hell of a change up for opposing defenses all year.

I'd argue that Ohio State is under just as much pressure to win as any professional sports team is. Maybe more pressure. If you got 0.750 in the NFL (12-4), you make the playoffs. That's unlikely at 9-3 in college.

In my IMO, Ohio State should play the guy who gives them the best opportunity to win. If Urban Meyer says that Cardale Jones is that guy, even with Miller at 100%, I'm all in on Cardale Jones. It's his call and I'm not one to second-guess a guy who gets paid to do something I don't do. (That's why I don't second-guess the way @Yertle delivers pizzas.) The last I heard, Miller was the guy, according to Meyer. I'm all in on him, until that changes.

Zurp, it's not delivery, it's Digiorno. That's why I come over and start your oven right away, you dumb sack.

I can't wait to see how this all plays out. Kind of hoping for a standard formation with Cardale and Miller on the field together. Hoping JT gets a medical redshirt and gives our next young QB an extra year of learning.

Whatever. It's all good. What an amazing season, and what an amazing future for this Buckeye team.

That is highly unlikely since the injury occurred in the last game of the regular season and it would give him 4 years of eligibility still. In any event, I think 3 years left is more than enough. Even if JT does not win the job this season, he still likely has two years at the helm with Miller graduating and Cardale likely going pro. Hell, JT could potentially declare before his eligibility runs up as well. Whatever scenario plays out, I think our future QBs will have plenty of guidance from these guys (Collier, Burrow, Gibson, Guarantano(?)). I think continuity of guys with the right attitude is so vital...when Cardale and JT get to watch Guiton put in the work and succeed when called upon, I think that just trickles down to everyone.

I don't see where he'd be losing his job to injury in this situation at all. Its been a year, there will be spring (well, for Cardale and Collier anyway) then camp in the summer. These guys are gonna compete, three of them have live, impressive, game tape, so, the earning the coaches confidence is much less of an issue, you can trust all 3. In this case, Braxton will have to win the job. (And it goes the same for the other two). There's no hypothetical about his shoulder being healthy, its gonna be what it is. Its called competition, its what our coaches believe in, and the one of them that checks the most boxes to give us the best chance to win is gonna play.

The problem is that most agree that Cardale is the only one ready to go in spring. Braxton, and JT also, won't be ready until fall.
