QB J.T. Barrett (B1G FOY, All American, Silver Football Award, 3x B1G QBOY, National Champion)

J.T. BARRETT'S DAD THINKS BRAXTON MILLER SHOULD BE THE STARTER HEADING INTO FALL CAMP

J.T. Barrett is known as an ice-cold tactician on the field. After his dad spoke with Tim May of Dispatch.com, it's easy to see where he gets it.

Nobody would fault Joe Barrett if he thought his son — who was pretty good for Ohio State after Braxton Miller was felled by a torn labrum — should be Ohio State's starter. It's a perfectly normal position for a parent to have.

But Joe Barrett sees the world a bit differently than most parents, and his answer to May's question about which QB should be No. 1 heading into fall camp might surprise you:

“Of course I would love to see my kid start, but for me it always goes back to who was first,” he said. “If Braxton hadn’t gotten hurt, I would still be waiting for my baby to get the chance to play. I was thankful J.T. got that chance … and we were all blessed that he was ready to compete, but like I have told everybody, I don’t want to see my kid take a position because of the misfortune of someone else,” he said.

“In other words, Braxton should get that position back, then everybody else should go try to take it from him.”

ESPN: College QBs evaluated by players at Elite 11

...

Though it was Arizona State quarterback Mike Bercovici who “won” the competition part of the event, it was Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett who seemed to be the name that came up the most while speaking with wide receivers.

“He’s on point.”

“He had a good ball, good zip on it, nice touch to it. Good feet -- I like his feet.”

“He was throwing beautiful balls and hitting on all cylinders.”

But even past the mechanics, Barrett seemed to be the college player who brought the most to the event away from the field as well. One receiver said he was surprised how thankful Barrett seemed to be out at the event, especially after he just won the national title.

Another noted that “he brought hella energy so that was good to have that. He just made everyone feel comfortable.”

...

On Barrett: “His big message was to just control what you can control, just do what you have to do to put yourself in the best position to succeed … and work your ass off all the time. He was such a great guy to get to know and get to work with.” -- Rutgers commit Anthony Russo

“I think J.T. threw the best ball.” -- Tennessee commit Jarrett Guarantano

Best quality to have as a player is probably being coach able and a good locker room guy to have. Seems humble, easy to coach and someone that everyone wants to work with. We hear nothing but good things and I think that can go a long way with how a team can execute and perform. If I had to compare JT to any past QB's we've had I'd say it's Kenny G. Glad he is a Buckeye and can't wait to see his recovery and improvement!
