QB J.T. Barrett (B1G FOY, All American, Silver Football Award, 3x B1G QBOY, National Champion)

I'd probably give him a B. Good, but not great first outing. But looking forward to the next few games.

Wow. Tough crowd for a freshman that hasnt played a down competitively in over 2 years.

I would grade the kid as an A for a freshman outing in a game against a very athletic FBS defense. I would have him graded lower if the opponent were Youngstown St or some chump FCS school. His mechanics were good and seems like he has very good promise if he continues to work hard.

As for a first game (sans class) I would grade him at a B+. Going 80% on completions, over 220 yards in the air, led the team in rushing with 50 yards, 2 TDs, and only one turnover - damn good start. He had a better QBR than Sims, Dylan Thompson, and Brett Hundley.

Only made 2 mistakes that really cost us. The int and the speed option on 3rd and 1 where he pitch instead of heading north and south. I blame the play calling on that dumb option play more than JT. Not bad for frosh.

Supremely bad timing in your part . I was actually coming in to post this 11w article which includes a quote that makes me look pretty good :

"J.T., I thought, did OK. I’d grade him a B, I think," Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer said. "Every new player’s going to have a certain amount of mistakes. We wanted to open it up a little bit more in the first half and we did. It wasn’t because of him, it was because our offensive line."

Speed option wasn't his fault. I thought JT looked great and if the coaches would just trust in JT (love saying that again) then his day would've been even better. His throws were spirals and had the appropriate touch/speed when needed. Heck his throw to Dontre should've been caught as well and that was a tough throw

In my book that option play was a horrible play call compounded by an incorrect read by Barrett. He wouldn't have scored, but if he took what the defense was giving it would have been a gain instead of a loss.

Another thing on that int, jt could have just slid to the left keeping his eyes downfield instead of spinning. The spin just blew up the timing of the play. Easy for me to say watching from my couch though.

I think JT played a heck of a game. Especially for having been named starter a few weeks ago and thrust into national fame. I laughed out loud at the amount of times the announcers spoke about his HS exploits because they had little other information about him. At the end of the day, JT played his game, he was a distributor who got the ball in playmakers hands like he should and didn't try and be Braxton and make insane plays with his legs. He stuck to the game plan and took what the defense gave him. The INT hurt a lot because we were in the red zone, but he made up for it. I think he showed some promising signs. But the offensive line needs to step up and help him out more. Our O line needs to gel still, and luckily that was only game 1.
